Fort Augustus is a small village at the southern end of
Loch Ness on the Caledonian Canal. The Caledonian Canal, connecting Corpach
near Fort William with Clachnaharry in Inverness, was completed in 1822.
It is over 60 miles long, but more than two thirds of its length consists
of three connected lochs - Loch Ness, Loch Oich and Loch Lochy.

Welcome
to Mount Pleasant.
A traditional Highland Cottage built in the late 1800’s situated
overlooking the picturesque village of Fort Augustus in its own half acre
of land.
In early years this was a croft with grazing and the ‘lady of the
houses' job was tending to the milk cow, which would have to be walked
from fields at Inchnacardoch some 2 miles away.
A burn (stream) which runs along side would have been the ‘water
supply’ and the weekly washing would have been done here.
Sitting outside the cottage in this rural setting your imagination can
‘run away with you’ viewing the village as it is now and picturing
it in the days gone by.
Visitors enjoy their stay in what is a traditional homely well equipped
highland cottage, relaxing or as a base for touring all areas of The Highlands.

The Caledonian Canal which runs through the village (now all electronically

had to open the lock gates manually.
For the less energetic, there is always the popular pastime of watching
the boats go through the locks with a glass of wine or a wee dram in your
hand.
Pleasure trips on Loch Ness, fishing, forest walks, horse riding and
golf are all available locally.
