Fort Augustus is a small village at the southern end of Loch Ness on the Caledonian Canal. The Caledonian Canal, connecting Corpach near Fort William with Clachnaharry in Inverness, was completed in 1822. It is over 60 miles long, but more than two thirds of its length consists of three connected lochs - Loch Ness, Loch Oich and Loch Lochy.

Location:
The Lodge is situated in the beautiful village of Fort Augustus at the southern end of Loch Ness. It is an ideal situation to discover more of the Highlands of Scotland. Trips to the Isle of Skye, Inverness and the north and Fort William and Lochaber can all be enjoyed in a day, returning to Stravaigers in the evening.

Stravaigers is a few minutes' walk from the Great Glen Way, The Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness, so whether you’re walking, cycling, backpacking, canoeing or touring around Scotland, Stravaigers offers the perfect place to stop for a break.
This is a superb location as there are things to see and do in every season. Don't just come in the summer months, as spring, autumn and winter all have their own attractions to offer.

The autumn colours are spectacular to see, and in spring you are assured of beautiful displays of primroses followed by bluebells along the loch side.
And don't forget, we are ideally located at the head of Loch Ness in case you are here for Monster spotting!

Activities in the Fort Augustus Area:
Located along the Great Glen half way between Fort William and Inverness, Stravaigers Lodge offers the perfect base for a wide variety of activities.
The family-run centre is the perfect base to walk, tour and discover the Western Highlands. The area is renowned for its hill walking with several munros, corbetts and grahams all in close proximity.

The village of Fort Augustus and surrounding area offers a vast array of activities such as:

Inverness Area

A tip to Inverness has plenty to offer, apart from the excellent shopping! En route you will pass along the length of Loch Ness, and the picturesque ruins of Urquhart Castle.
A little further on from the castle at Drumnadrochit is the Loch Ness Monster Exhibition. From there it's a 10 mile drive on to the Highland Capital, which has a museum, leisure centre and ice rink, Cruises along Loch Ness, and Whale watching cruises available, amongst many others.
A little further on from Inverness is Culloden, site of the last battle fought on British soil in 1746 with its excellent brand new visitor centre.

Fort William Area:
Fort William is set at the foot of Ben Nevis. It has a leisure centre, Nevis Range ski centre with its year round gondola ride (which takes you up Aonach Mor adjacent to Ben Nevis), Mountain Bike courses, Quad Bike activities and of course plenty of shops.
The Jacobite steam train leaves Fort William during theh summer on its scenic trip to Mallaig, via the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct (of Harry Potter fame). Fort William has the ruins of Old Inverlochy Castle, which is worth a visit.

Location - How to get here:
From Inverness

Follow the A82 from Inverness for 33 miles until you reach Fort Augustus. Once in Fort Augustus, pass the petrol station on the right and continue over the stone bridge, then the white canal bridge. Then take the next road on your left, signposted (B862 whitebridge). Continue on the B862 for 100 metres and the lodge is on your right.
From Fort William:
Follow the A82 from Fort William for 32 miles until you reach Fort Augustus. Once in Fort Augustus pass the Police Station on your left and then the Lovat Arms Hotel also on your left. Take the next road on your right signed (B862 Whitebridge) Continue on the B863 for 100 metres and the lodge is on your right.
