This traditional Highland Hotel has been run by MacLellans of Mallaig
Bheag since 1978. Over the last 30 years the Caledononian Hotel has built
up a large number or visitors who stay at least once a year. They find
the Caledonian Hotel is an ideal base to visit the rest of the Highlands
and for searching for Nessie the Loch Ness monster.

The Corbie Bar
The Bar has a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Many locals pop in for a drink
however this in not a Pub and the hotel hopes that visitors respect other
guests and refrain from foul language. Apart from the local Royal British
Legion Club,The Hotel currently has the best beer and malt whiskey prices
in the village.
Cairngorm Cask Ale, Guiness, Belhaven Best and Tennents Lager are all
on tap..
Dining
The Hotel prides itself on "freshly prepared dinning" which
is served at 7.30pm each night.
If you may prefer just a lite starter and a sweet or just a main coarse.
A L' Carte Pricing is available.
The menu changes every day. For the main course there is always a minimum
choice of Fish, Meat and vegetarian dishes. Please see sample menu attached.
Vegetarians should notify reception in advance so that the hotel can offer
a wider selection of vegetarian / vegan dishes.
As there is often high demand for tables residents should reserve their
table by 4.00pm on the day of their arrival.
Fort Augustus
The Hotel is 350 Metres from the centre of Fort Augustus (which is on
the Banks of Loch Ness).
Two rivers and a canal running through the village, this must be one of
the most naturally picturesque villages in Scotland.
One Day trips often include:
· Tour around Glenelg, Skye, Plockton and Eilean Donan Castle.
· Driving round Loch Ness.
· Taking a Royal Scot Cruise on Loch Ness
· Visiting Mallaig by Steam train or taking the boat from Arisaig
to Eigg, Rum and Muck.
· Many go North to Dornoch, Ullapool and Durness.
· In the East they see Aviemore, Culloden and Fort George.
· Other places of interest are Cromarty, Nairn, Cawdor Castle,
Urquhart Castle, James Pringle Woolen Mill, House of Beauly and not to
forget the distilleries: Tomatin, Dew of Ben Nevis, Dalwhinnie, Glen Ord,
Dalmore, Glenmorangie and Talisker.
Facilities and Music Events
We are known as a traditional music hot spot. "Do not forget
your fiddle!"
On the ground floor the Hotel has a large reception area where local musicians
often play traditional music.
There is also the Corbie Bar and a Residents Lounge.
Traditional Music Sessions in 2010
Last year we hosted 6 formal Homecoming Scotland Music Sessions.
Lead by Aonghus Grant (senior) on Fiddle accompanied by Sophie Stephenson
on Guitar, Penny Whistle.
We hope to have more formal and informal sessions in 2010.
Within the grounds of the Hotel is a small 2 Rink Bowling Green 30 metres
long.
The picturesque village of Fort Augustus must be explored by all visitors.
Canal, Loch Ness, Lock Gates, Shops and Pubs.
Getting to The Caledonian Hotel:
The Hotel is easy to find as it is on the south side of the main Road
that runs through the village.
The most popular Route from South West Scotland is via the A82 "Following
the West Highland Way":-
Loch Lomand, Glen Coe, Fort William and up the Great Glen.
Please take Note that it is easy to miss the A82 if you are coming from
the South.
The best route is:- M6 - M74 then take the exit for M8 (Glasgow City Centre)
and follow directions to Glasgow Airport and cross over the Erskine Bridge
to A82.
From South East of Scotland the Route follows the A9 to Perth and onto
Dalwhinnie the A86 to Spean Bridge and Great Glen.
An alternative Route going South is A82, A85 and then A84 to Stirling.
The only airport in the region is near Inverness.
