Castle Hotel Accommodation

The Castle Hotel offers three beautifully decorated deluxe bedrooms, complimented by Italian tiled bathrooms and exceptional views.

These exceptional rooms are beautifully decorated and complimented by Italian tiled bathrooms and boast superb views over picturesque parkland.

Our guests may choose between a suite with a stately four-poster bed, or alternatively, a private lounge facility with 24hr internet access and complimentary sherry.

In addition to the usual tea/coffee & hair drying facilities, guests are also treated to bathrobes each evening and during the winter months - hot water bottles.

Please note that all suites are strictly non-smoking. Regrettably, pets are not permitted in the hotel.

The majority of our fourteen standard bedrooms offer beautiful views over the surrounding parkland.

For our family travellers we have a family suite. It features a double bedroom with private toilet, a twin bedroom and a large wood-panelled family bathroom. Both bedrooms have their own televisions.

All rooms offer en-suite facilities and tea/coffee and hairdryer amenities.

The Sandston Room is situated on the first floor and boasts breathtaking views over the surrounding parkland. The room with its large windows allows for ample light and is perfect for a multitude of business and private functions, both formal and informal.

The serenity of this room is its attraction.

Please note that all rooms are strictly non-smoking. Regrettably, pets are not permitted in the hotel.

The Dining Room at the Castle Hotel is beautifully elegant with tall Georgian windows framing panoramic views over the gardens and surrounding parkland. It provides all our guests and visitors with a comfortable, stylish and refreshing place in which to dine.

The Castle Hotel is located 15 miles from the undisputed Whisky Capital of the World, Dufftown, and we couldn’t have imagined a more befitting name than ‘The Distillery’ for our bar lounge.

The local area is home to the some of the World’s most revered Malts and people travel from far and wide to sample the elixir that the locals here call the ‘water of life’.

Being good neighbours we specialise in the Speyside Malts, but we also offer a wider range of Malts from other parts of Scotland, enabling our guests to acquaint themselves with like-minded delights from the whole of Scotland.

The wood-panelled bar lounge features a warm fireplace - a welcoming respite for any traveller, far or near.

There’s nothing quite like sinking into the leather armchairs, whilst watching the flickering flames dancing excitedly to the Celtic chimes softly playing in the background, whilst sampling your favourite Scottish Malt!

The Bartender’s pride and joy is his selection of 140 Malts and Blends, which has been especially chosen for you, so rest assured you’ll be spoiled for choice!

The Piano Lounge offers a stunning private venue lending itself effortlessly to a host of special occasions.

Its location on the ground floor with French Doors opening onto manicured front lawns and close proximity to the toilets and bar/lounge make it firm favourite every time!

Message from the owners:
We dreamt of a faraway land of breathtaking beauty, where we could watch each season come and go, and where stranger’s still had time to smile and say 'hello'.

We also dreamt of an old house with thick stone walls, a special place, which through the passage of time had been home to many families before us.

We wanted to wake up each morning to the sounds of birds, and fall asleep at night beneath a galaxy of stars. We wanted to be surrounded by green lawns, ancient trees and for the lucky few a glimpse of a fawn in the early dawn.

We wanted a respite where people could find peace and contentment. this is our dream and it has come true.

History of Castle Hotel:
The Castle Hotel, originally known as Sandston, was built as a family home for the Dukes of Gordon during the 18th century.
Later it was refurbished and extended with stone from the ruins of Huntly Castle in 1769 and renamed Huntly Lodge. The 5th and final Duke of Gordon enlisted Archibald Simpson - the celebrated Aberdeen architect, to help with its design.

The Lordship of Strathbogie (the ancient title for Huntly), was conferred to the Berwickshire family of Gordon in 1319 when it was forfeited by Robert the Bruce after David de Strathbogie, Earl of Athole, had backed the wrong side at the Battle of Bannockburn (1314)

The "Gey Gordons" finally settled in Aberdeenshire in 1376 and brought with them the name to the town. Huntly is frequently called "the heart of the Gordon Country" ; to the Gordons it owes its Charter as Burgh of Barony, granted by Mary Queen of Scots in 1545.

Huntly Lodge was sold from the large estate in 1924, the british army used it as a hospital during World War II, and in 1946 it was sold once more and became the Castle Hotel.

Still in private ownership today, the good food and comfort enjoyed by the subsequent Dukes of Gordon is still enjoyed by Royalty today, most notably His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in 1994. Among our valued customers we have wined and dined Douglas Hurd, the then Home Secretary; Scotland`s former rugby captain Gavin Hastings; and Glasgow Rangers football team !!
