warm welcome in homely accommodation on our farm set in peaceful countryside with stunning views over the Strathmore Valley and the surrounding countryside. David Clark's grandfather came to Purgavie at the foot of Glen Isla in 1904 and the family has farmed here ever since, with potatoes and malting barley now the main crops, while cattle and sheep graze on the hill. Purgavie borders onto the Cairngorm National Park. The farm stretches over 470 acres of which 200 acres are hills. Purgavie Farm AccommodationThe large comfortable bedrooms have great views of the surrounding glens and the spacious dining room make meal times a truly Scottish experience. We also have two self-catering cottages available. There is a choice of double/twin and family bedrooms available. All rooms have ensuite bathroom, TV and tea-making facilities. Guests are also welcome to use our attractive conservatory area as well as the lounge. Facilities Include: Attractions Lintrathen Loch Ospreys can be see on Lintrathen Loch and Kinnordy Loch and the Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve. No matter what your age or interests are, there is always something exciting to do in this area. Situated in the nearby village of Glamis this famous Scottish castle was the childhood home of HRH Queen Elizabeth, the late Queen Mother and birthplace of the late Princess Margaret. It was also the legendary setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth. Within the castle are fine collections of china, paintings, tapestry and furniture. A popular tourist attraction the castle is open to the public and there are gift and garden shops as well as a self-service restaurant. Glen Isla is the most westerly of the lovely Glens of Angus. The gateway to the Glens is Kirriemuir, a small town best known as the childhood home of J M Barrie, creator of Peter Pan. In the town there is a museum/exhibition in the house he was born in and also a café and small shop. There is no shortage of Golf courses in this part of the world. As well as local quality courses such as Glenisla, there are also world renowned championship courses within easy driving distance such as St Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles. A few miles drive towards the coast lies the historic town and fishing port of Arbroath. Famous for it's Historic Abbey and renowned delicacy "arbroath smokies", the town also has a good selection of shops and spectacular walks along it's coastline. If you ask people what they associate with Scotland's north-east town of Arbroath, the answer will invariably be the Arbroath smokie.
