During the 1960s Mallaig was the busiest herring port in Europe, and
still today the harbour is full of life and activity as boats unload their
catch of mainly langustine, crab and lobster.

fishing port of Mallaig. It enjoys a prominent position overlooking the
harbour with spectacular views to the islands of Eigg, Rum and Skye.
The railway station and ferry terminal are each within a five minutes’
walk.
Situated at the end of the ‘Road to the Isles’ The West Highland
Hotel is an elegant, stone built property which has stood overlooking
the village of Mallaig since the arrival of the West Highland Railway
Line in the early 1900s.

Executive Rooms
For 2012 five rooms will be upgraded to executive rooms, offering you
king size beds, outstanding views and a little more luxury for your stay
in the highlands.
Bridal Room
The West Highland Hotel Bridal Suite really is a beautiful bedroom.
It is the ideal choice for a romantic break, special occasion, wedding
night or a honeymoon.
This hotel room features a king size hand carved oak bed and a seating
area with breathtaking views over the sea to Skye, Rhum and Egg, the sunsets
are awe-inspiring no matter the weather.
The luxury bathroom boasts a double shower, slate tiles, bath robes and
luxurious bathroom products.
Classic Rooms
All of our guest bedrooms are fully en-suite with either a bath shower
or both.
Almost all of the classic rooms enjoy a sea or harbour view at no extra
cost, and have their own individual character.
All the rooms offer Freeview Television, tea and coffee facilities, an
internal telephone, hairdryer and a trouser press (Ironing board available
through reception).
We have a number of family rooms, and will provide a cot and highchair

Being only a short walk from both the railway station and the ferry link
between mainland Scotland and the Inner Hebrides it is
ideally located for all travellers hoping to explore the delights of Lochaber
and Knoydart.
During the winter of 2010/11 the first phase of a 6 year improvement project
has been completed.
All the public areas and the majority of bedrooms look out across to the
nearby Islands providing the most striking and colourful
evenings as the sun sets behind the Cuillin mountains of Skye.
The West Highland Hotel offers you one of the most picturesque
places to eat in the area.
Activities
Walking is perhaps what Lochaber is most famous for with
thousands of square miles of hills, glens, lochs, forests, rivers and
spectacular coastlines to experience.
The local coastal waters offer a variety of sea kayaking
that is among the best in the world with adventures for all levels.
The area offers everything from multi-day trips in exposed tidal waters
to a gentle evening paddle along a secluded shoreline.
If you are a rail enthusiast why not take the west coast line –a
trip voted as one of the most beautiful rail trips in
Europe.
Or as a special treat take the steam train from Fort
William to Mallaig, also known as the Harry Potter express.
For the more energetic, Mallaig is an ideal base camp
for hill walking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, Kayaking, diving,
island hopping and sea safari.
Directions
Getting there from the Information Centre
From the centre of mallaig follow the B8008 for just 150 m and you will
see the West Highland Hotel on your lest on an elevated position overlooking
the village and the small isles.
Getting There by Car
From Fort William take the A830 for about 42 miles to Mallaig.
Getting There by Railway
The award winning west coast rail journey will take you to mallaig directly
from Glasgow.
Getting there by Aeroplane
Aproximatly 31/2 hrs from Glasgow and Edinburgh airport. Around 21/2 hrs
from Inverness airport.
Getting There by Ferry
When sailing from skye back to the mainland you can sail from armadale
to Mallaig.
