The Scottish Borders is steeped in history and all the area’s visitor
attractions are within easy reach of Burt’s Hotel.
From walking tours to archaeological sites, there is something for everyone
in the Borders.
As well as Melrose Abbey, which is reputed to be the
burial place of the heart of Robert the Bruce, you can also visit the
ruined abbeys at Kelso, Dryburgh, and Jedburgh.
Between Melrose and Galashiels is the splendid 19th century Abbotsford
House, built and lived in by Sir Walter Scott.
Among the attractions at Abbotsford House are its walled garden, extensive
woodland walks, and the private chapel, built in memory of Sir Walter
Scott.
Edinburgh, or Auld Reekie as it was known, is less than
an hour away.

Getting there by Aeroplane
From Edinburgh Airport, pick up Edinburgh city bypass (A720) direction
east then pick up A68 heading south, direction of Jedburgh. Melrose is
3 miles off the A68, 37 miles south of Edinburgh on A6091.
