On Sunday March 27th 2011, Barcaldine House voted Scotland's Rural Restaurant of the Year 2011 at the Scottish Hotel Awards.

Our Head Chef Oskars Kalnins worked at Andrew Fairlie's two Michelin star restaurant in Gleneagles.

He then moved to the Ballachuilish Hotel where he and current Head Chef at Fortingall (our sister Hotel) achieved a Michelin Star for their outstanding quality of food. What Oskars has brought to Barcaldine house is his exceptional skill and talent to create imaginative and mouth-watering food. Oskars is ambitious, focused and passionate about using locally sourced produce.

Our restaurant is located on the ground floor, in what used to be the main lounge of this historic house. This bright airy room, with stunning period features is the perfect setting for breakfast, lunch and dinner in a relaxed yet intimate atmosphere.

At Barcaldine (and Fortingall) we focus on fresh, locally sourced seasonal produce, our menu's change daily and we always cater for vegetarians. If you have any other dietary requirements, we are more than happy to adapt our menus.

Lunch
From Monday to Friday we serve our mid week lunch menu menu, while at the weekend we change the lunch menu and on Sunday we provide a more traditional choice.

Afternoon Tea
This eternal Scottish favourite is offered complete with home made treats baked on the premises, and can be enjoyed anywhere within the house or gardens (weather permitting!)

Dinner
Enjoy a six course meal and canapes.

Drinks
We have an extensive bar and wine list which includes wines from the new and old world. If you like whisky we have a large selection of whisky from around Scotland as well as a selection of brandy and cognac for after dinner.

If you are having dinner in the hotel why not start your evening off with a pre dinner drink in our lounge or study before you move through to the restaurant. Non residents are warmly welcomed at Barcaldine to join us for breakfast, lunch or dinner, we are happy also to serve drink at any time during licencing hours.

Local Area around Barcaldine
Barcaldine House Hotel lies in the heart of the west coast of Scotland in North Argyll, just 12 miles away from the harbouring town of Oban.

The village of Barcaldine is a small, delightful settlement on the A828 between Oban and Fort William on the bonnie banks of Loch Creran. The nearby Barcaldine Castle was the home of the clan Campbell until the early 18th century when the family abandoned the castle for Barcaldine House, a comfortable alternative.

The next village south, just minutes away, before you get to Oban, is Benderloch where you can relax on the golden sands of Tralee Bay or hike up to the summit of Ben Lora for spectacular views of Argyll.

DIRECTIONS
Getting there from the Information Centre:

From Oban TIC: Heading out of Oban towards the village of Connel, follow signs for A828 to Benderloch which takes you over the Connel Bridge. Follow this road until you reach Barcaldine.

Getting There by Car:
From the North: From Fort William take the A82 to North Ballachulish, then the A828 to Barcaldine.

From the South
At the village of Connel, near Oban follow signs for A828 to Benderloch which takes you over the Connel Bridge. Follow this road until you reach Barcaldine.

Getting There by Railway:
From Oban railway station - heading out of Oban towards the village of Connel, follow signs for A828 to Benderloch which takes you over the Connel Bridge. Follow this road until you reach Barcaldine.

However, wherever feasibly possible, Barcaldine House staff will endeavour to collect guests from the railway station with prior arrangement.

Getting there by Aeroplane:
From Glasgow Airport – guests would take a train to Oban. From Oban railway station - heading out of Oban towards the village of Connel, follow signs for A828 to Benderloch which takes you over the Connel Bridge. Follow this road until you reach Barcaldine.

Getting There by Ferry:
If arriving into Oban harbour by ferry guests can take taxi or bus to Barcaldine.
