Local Attractions and Activities
Oban and the surrounding west coast is a great area to explore. There's plenty to keep you amused in the town itself whilst the area is full of historical sites and picture postcard castles. We've just selected a few of our favourite activities and attractions below:

Island hopping
Heading out of Oban on a ferry or local boat trip,it is easy to visit many of the nearby islands. Mull is the biggest (and great for a holiday too) and the ferry into Craignure takes you close to Duart and Torosay castles.

From Mull it is possible to visit historic and spiritual Iona; alternatively jump on a local boat across to Kerrera for views back towards Oban and a great day's walking. Closer to Oban, Lismore, Seil island and Luing also showcase the best in west coast scenery.

Wildlife Watching - Sealife Sanctuary
Located ten miles north of Oban, visit Ottercreek or the seal pools and many more attractions

Wildlife Watching - Coastal Connection, & Sealife Surveys
Oban is a busy sea port and as you would expect the majority of the best wildlife to see is off the coast of Oban. The best way to see it all is to take a tour on a RIB and get up close and personal with the sea life.

Expect to see Basking sharks, Minke whales, porpoise, Otters, dolphin and perhaps Corryvreckan, the world’s 3rd largest whirlpool located just off the coast of Islay.

There are many providers to choose from including Coastal Connections who run daily excursions from Oban. Mull is a short ferry journey away and is the UK's number 1 wildlife watching destination.

Whisky - Oban Distillery
Oban distillery tour offers visitors to the distillery the chance to explore exactly what happens in the process to produce Oban single malt's unique spirit character.

McCaigs Tower
McCaigs Tower is a prominent 'folly' situated on the hillside overlooking Oban. It was originally commissioned by John McCaig, a local man, as a monument to his family but construction ceased on his death. It provides superb views out over the town, particularly towards Mull and Kerrera.
