Sgeir Mhaol is a family-run guest house whose name, pronounced 'Sgeir Vole', meaning in gaelic 'A Bare Rock', is derived from that of a lighthouse with a family connection off the Isle of Jura. The house is conveniently situated at the southern end of Oban on the Campbeltown road, yet only 5 minutes walk from the town centre, bus, boat and train terminals. Open all year, Sgeir Mhaol has a spacious private car park within the grounds. Sgeir Mhaol Guest House AccommodationBoth the dining room and lounge overlook a pleasant front garden, and together with the bedrooms are all on the ground floor. The house is centrally heated throughout. Our breakfast menu has a variety of choices including a traditional full Scottish breakfast. Bedrooms comprise double, twin and family accommodation, all colour co-ordinated and furnished to a high standard of comfort, with colour television, tea/coffee makers, shaver points etc. Most rooms also have en suite facilities, and are non-smoking. Oban and surroundings from Sgeir Mhaol As a base for touring, Oban is excellent for cruises to the islands of Mull, Iona, Staffa, Coll, Tiree and Colonsay, and to explore the nearby islands of Kerrera and Lismore. By car or coach visit Fort William, Loch Ness, Kintyre and Inveraray. Locally, The Sealife Centre, Cruachan Power Station and the island of Seil make excellent days out for the family. DIRECTIONS You will pass the Co-Op on your right and the Lorn Medical Centre on your left. Go straight across at the next traffic lights keeping to the left lane then take the first right into the Sgeir Mhaol car park (don't take the road to the right as this will take you to Tesco). From Lochgilphead follow the signs to Oban and when you arrive in Oban you will pass the hospital on your left and carry on down the road until just before you reach the traffic lights. Turn left into the Sgeir Mhaol car park. If arriving by train you can get a taxi from outside the station or it is a 5 minute level walk.
