The
imposing building overlooks Burray Harbour, Watersound Bay and South Ronaldsay.
The village shop and Burray Post Offce are just 2 minute's walk away and
there is also a garage nearby. The Sands Hotel is just 4 miles from the
Pentland Ferries terminal at St Margarets Hope.
The hotel is very popular with tourists during the Summer season as a
central base for exploring Orkney. It is also especially popular with
divers who come to Orkney to dive the wrecks in Scapa Flow. The flag pole
outside the building was once on the German Steamer Ilsenstein.

Guest accommodation consists of 6 ensuite bedroom with sea views.
Two double rooms, two twin rooms and two family rooms. All rooms are spacious
and have splendid sea views over the harbour. All rooms have en-suite
facilities, tea & coffee making facilities and remote control TV.

with a double and a twin room, en-suite, small kitchenette, spacious and
relaxing sitting area with views over the village pier and out towards

Tastefully refurbished with a nautical theme, the Watersound Restaurant
offers a full à la carte menu using a lot of local Orkney produce.
The restaurant is also a popular venue for many local people. Here you
can enjoy Orkney salmon, scallops, crab, lobster and other local fish.
Orkney beef is also well known for its high quality.
How to get to The Sands Hotel
From Stromness and Kirkwall:
Leave the ferry and take the A965 and follow the road signs for Kirkwall.
Coming in to Kirkwall, turn right at the Highland fuels petrol station.
Follow the road past Lidl, then turn right at the roundabout and follow
the road out of town past Highland Park. After 6 miles you will come to
St Mary's. Carry on and turn right across the Churchill Barriers. Cross
3 barriers. Carry on, past the Fossil & Vintage Centre. Approching
Burray Village, turn right. Go down the hill and at the bottom, bear left
and follow the road round, past the harbour and you will see The Sands
Hotel.
From St Margaret's Hope:
Follow the road through the village, up the hill to the main road. turn
left for Kirkwall. After crossing the 4th Chruchill Barrier you are entering
Burray Village. Take the first left past the garage/shop and bear left
all the way down past the harbour and you will see The Sands Hotel.
From Kirkwall Airport:
Leave the airport and turn left. After 3 miles, turn right, signposted
to Holm and the Barriers. Follow the road until you come to the Chruchill
Barriers. Trun left across the barriers. Cross 3 barriers. Carry on, past
the Fossil & Vintage Centre. Approching Burray Village, turn right.
Go down the hill and at the bottom, bear left and follow the road round,
past the harbour and you will see The Sands Hotel.
There is ample space for car parking.
