Welcome to Kingsburgh, Skye and the historic
stone boathouse situated on the coast of Loch Snizort, North Skye
– probably the ideal romantic hideaway.
Dating from Jacobite times, the Kingsburgh Boathouse is arguably
the most luxurious small private retreat on Skye.
Lovingly restored in recent years by Skye’s pre-eminent craftsmen,
Kingsburgh Boathouse, proudly situated on the Atlantic coast, is
now a luxury self-catering cottage and is available for the enjoyment
of select, discerning visitors.

The Kingsburgh Boathouse Skye Accommodation
Downstairs
The two-storey cottage has underfloor warming throughout, enhanced downstairs
by the solid Scandinavian wood-burning stove set within the original stonework,
now expertly re-pointed.
The comfortable open-plan sitting-dining area has cosy sofas and spectacular
picture windows looking to the Cuillin ridge to the south and to the Outer
Isles to the north, where the setting sun in summer offers the most wonderful
vistas.
The dining table, custom-made on Skye, is a special feature.
The fully-equipped kitchen area has all necessary supplies and the downstairs
cloakroom accommodates the washer/drier in case outdoor clothes need laundered
while tired walkers enjoy a dram by the fire with some relaxing music
or while watching a movie on the HD TV.
Upstairs
Upstairs, the property shows its true dimensions with its large bedroom
with ‘cathedral’ wooden ceiling offering also a sitting area
or morning coffee corner with outlook over the loch and to the Cuillins.
The super-king size zip-link bed can be offered as a double or twin, as
preferred.
Down and feather pillows and duvet are provided as standard, but hypo-allergenic
are available by request.
Adjoining the bedroom is what must be Skye’s most spectacular bathroom.

Directions
Getting there from the Information Centre
From Portree, Kingsburgh is situated some 8 miles north of the town, reached
by taking the A87 towards Uig.
Four miles south of Uig, follow the signed side road, left, for Kingsburgh,
reaching the township after one third of a mile.
The Kingsburgh Boathouse is signed, left, in the main township and can
be found by following the private track half a mile down the hill to the
lochside.
Getting There by Car
Most visitors will have cars; having journeyed via Inverness, reaching
the Skye Bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh, or by A 87 from Fort William, again
to the Bridge, or maybe to the ferry to Armadale from Mallaig on A 830.
Kingsburgh is an hour’s drive from the Skye Bridge and about 75
minutes from Armadale.
Friends are often recommended to come via the Mallaig-Armadale Ferry on
the journey north.
Getting to Skye by boat feels a bit special.
The return journey can then be made across the now, toll-free, bridge.
Reaching Kingsburgh
Unusually for a remote, secluded cottage, it would be possible to stay
at the Kingsburgh Boathouse without having a car.
It is 25 minutes’ walk to the bus stop where buses pass for Portree,
to the south, or to Uig, to the north.
However, most visitors will have cars; having journeyed via Inverness,

Inverness has flight connections with Flybe and EasyJet; day trains from
King’s Cross and sleeper trains from Euston also reach Inverness
or Fort William.
The famous West Highland Line from Fort William to Mallaig (with Harry
Potter viaduct!) and the North Highland Line from Inverness to Kyle of
Lochalsh are both spectacular journeys.
Car hire is available at Inverness, or at Kyle of Lochalsh or in Skye.
Intrepid visitors trying the no-car option can be met at Portree, from
the Citylink bus, by arrangement.
