Smiddy House Accommodation

Our 4 en-suite rooms are characterful of a traditional Highland dwelling, each individually designed and named after Scottish places which are also named whiskies.

All rooms are on the first floor, tastefully decorated with calming colours and are well appointed. Each room has TV, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and mineral water.

Luxury towels and linen are provided as well as soaps and toiletries from our local “Highland Soap” shop located in the village and throughout the Highlands.

For guests arriving between 3.00pm – 5.00pm, a light afternoon tea is served in the Garden room. For later arrivals, guests can enjoy sherry and home-made shortbread in the comfort of their room.

Our Garden Room offers a place to rewind and relax prior to dinner. It is tastefully furnished and shows some pieces from the Orient. In the evening the Garden room is reserved for dining guests only.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant where you can enjoy a traditional Scottish breakfast or something lighter with fresh fruit, yogurt and freshly baked croissants.

Room Facilities
Awarded Gold Star rating from Visit Scotland and the AA, all our rooms are en-suite, have Digital television and tea/coffee making facilities. Our rooms are furnished with fresh flowers and complimentary mineral water.

All rooms are located on the first floor of the house. Quality linen and towels are provided as well as small personal touches throughout the room. Free WIFI access is available for residents.

Oban Room
This is our family room and can substitute for a twin bedded room. Facing the front and side of the house, the room is decorated in light pastel colours, has a king size bed and a single bed. Quality toiletries from our local “Highland Soap” shop are provided for your enjoyment.

Jura Room
Facing the front of the house, this is our twin bedded room. A calming room, tastefully decorated with the personal touch.

Islay Room
A double room with standard double bed. Facing the front of the house, decorated in cooling blue with a sense of tranquillity.

Tobermory Room
A double room with standard double bed facing the rear of the house with distant views of Aonach Mor.

Restaurant
Russell's Restaurant awarded 2 AA rosettes for 5 consecutive years, we pride ourselves in the dishes we produce. Our dishes concentrates on flavours and texture without being complicated and we source the best of Scottish and local produce as much as possible. Seasonal freshness shows the quality in our food and rarely fails to delight our diners when tasting the finished dish.

Locally sourced fish from our local waters appear on our menu. Scallops from the Island of Mull, Arisiag Prawns and Salmon from Wester Ross. The west coast of Scotland has an abundance of seafood which we try to reflect in our menus. Seasonal salad leaves and herbs are sourced from the Isle of Skye.

Highland lamb and beef reared and grazed naturally, as well as Scottish venison feature on our menu which changes regularly. Scottish cheeses and hand-made tablet are also used alongside the freshly baked bread made every day in the kitchen. A choice of vegetarian dishes are offered. Coeliac and dairy free diets can be catered for. If possible please give advanced notice.

Pet Friendly
Well-behaved small dogs are welcome, charges apply. Due to our size, we can only permit one dog in the house at any time. Dogs are not permitted in the restaurant or Garden room and must not be left unattended in the bedroom and are not permitted on the bed.

During meals times dogs must be kept in guest’s car while guests dine in the restaurant.

DIRECTIONS
Ideally situated in Spean Bridge on the corner of the A82 and the A86 leading to Newtonmore and Aviemore, The Smiddy House is only 11 miles from Fort William, the outdoor capital of the Highlands.

By Car:
Journey time from Inverness, by car, is about 1 hour whilst the journey from Glasgow and Edinburgh takes aproximately 3 hours.

By Bus:
The direct bus service from Glasgow to Spean Bridge takes approximately 3½ to 4 hours.

By Rail:
There is a train station in Spean Bridge, which is on the beautiful West Highland Railway Line. From here train services run to Fort William (8 miles) and Glasgow (95 miles). Car hire is available from both stations.

Flight:
The most convenient airport is Inverness (67 miles). For international flights Glasgow Airport is the closest (110 miles). Edinburgh Airport is just over 130 miles away and (Glasgow) Prestwick Airport is 145 miles away. Car hire is available at all airports.

Taxi:
