Ullapool, an appealing port and resort in Wester Ross, the fishing port of Ullapool in Wester Ross comes alive in summer when it receives a large influx of holidaymakers. Many move on by ferry to Stornoway on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, but it is a good base for exploring the area, and has a marvellous setting jutting out into Loch Broom. Dolphin is situated on the hills facing south about 1 mile from the centre of Ullapool and has outstanding view over Loch Broom. Dolphin AccommodationThe main part of this modern house has 1 double, 3 twin bedrooms and two single rooms with put-you-up and camp bed. There are 2 bathrooms with toilets, 1 separate toilet, a kitchen, comfortable living room with dining area and balcony over looking the loch. The separate, self contained flat has a living room with kitchen and dining area, 2 twin bedrooms and bathroom with toilet. Both house and flat have access to a large, fenced garden. Both properties have electric cookers and refrigerators and the house and flat are provided with a washing machine. Hot water and heating are supplied by an oil-fired boiler and immersion heaters. Visitors are asked to bring their own bed-linen, towels, bathmat and tea-towels. Dolphin house and flat are available separately or as a whole for weekly lets (Saturday to Saturday), prices vary with the time of year. Linen can be provided to overseas visitors for a small charge. Pets Self Catering House & Flat available to rent throughout the year. Ullapool The ferry to Stornoway (Isle of Lewis) sails throughout the year. During the summer months there are boat trips to the Summer Isles (birds and seals) and sea-fishing facilities. The area is one of outstanding natural beauty and ideal for walking, gentle or strenuous. Short car journeys (12 miles) take one to the Lael Forest Walk, Corrieshalloch Gorge and the food-for-free mussel beds at the head of Loch Broom. The same distance to the North is the Inverpolly Nature Reserve (Knockan Cliff Geological Nature Trail, ascent of Stac Polly, 2009 ft). Further afield to the North is the spectacular coast road to Achiltibuie with boats to the Summer Isles, salmon fisheries and hydroponics centre, smoked foods and sea bathing. Lochinver (fishing port, gentle walk to Falls of Kirkaig and wonderful views of the Sutherland mountains, including the bizarre Suliven). 50 miles to the south are the magnificent and surprisingly sub-tropical gardens at Inverewe (National Trust). There are guide books and maps in the house and a branch of the Scottish Tourist Board in Ullapool. DIRECTIONS The house is about a quarter mile up this lane on the left, identifiable by a carved wood dolphin at the bottom on the short, steep drive to the front door.
