Ullapool, an appealing port and resort in Wester Ross, the fishing port of Ullapool in Wester Ross comes alive in summer when it receives a large influx of holidaymakers. Many move on by ferry to Stornoway on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, but it is a good base for exploring the area, and has a marvellous setting jutting out into Loch Broom. Attractions include the award-winning Ullapool Museum and a multitude of craft shops and galleries.

Ullapool Accommodation Westlea is a family run Guest House situated in the picturesque West Coast village of Ullapool.

The North West Highlands of Scotland offer an outstanding area of natural beauty and each year welcomes visitors from all over the world.

We are Mairi and Angus MacLennan and bought Westlea in January 2007. We both originate from the Highlands of Scotland, and are committed to providing our guests with a standard of Highland hospitality that will ensure they leave with lasting and fond memories of their visit.

The house is situated in a quiet, tree lined street in the centre of the village and all the local amenities are within a five minute walk. We have five letting rooms so you can be assured of our best attention at all times.

Westlea Guest House Accommodation

The Guest House is next door to, and under the same ownership as Market Cottage which offers quality 4 star self-catering accommodation for 4 people.

We have 5 comfortable en suite rooms at Westlea - 3 double bedded rooms, 1 with twin beds and 1 single room. All bedrooms are located on the first and second floors. In addition to the main front door and reception area, there is a separate outside door which guests can use to come and go as they please.

All rooms have:

There is also an information pack and 'Ullapool Guide' in each room with details of the facilities we provide as well as some information on the local area.

We have a small residents lounge adjacent to our dining room where guests are welcome to sit and relax. Many of our guests use this room to chat after breakfast or to sit and read during the day. We have a car park at the front of the house for the use of our visitors. There is also ample car parking in Market Street adjacent to the house.

Breakfast
Westlea breakfasts consist of a cold buffet or porridge to start, followed by a cooked Scottish breakfast of your choice. The cold buffet includes fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt and juices. Look out for daily special cooked dishes, often offering Scottish specialities such as smoked haddock, haggis, smoked salmon or kippers.

Breakfast is normally served between 8.00am and 9.00am (8:30 to 9:30 on Sundays) however earlier breakfasts can be arranged if required.

Leisure facilities
Guests at Westlea can enjoy complementary use of the Lochbroom Leisure Centre including swimming pool, sauna, gym, tennis courts and games hall. The Leisure Centre is a 2 minute walk away from the house.

Wireless internet access
We have wireless internet access available throughout the house. Guests who bring their own laptop are able to access the internet, catch up with emails, or download photographs of their holiday.

Information
A display stand is located in the first floor hall with a selection of leaflets and information on the local area. This includes menus for the many local restaurants and eating places, trips and things to do, maps of the area and ideas for days out from Ullapool. Also, we are pleased to make recommendations and to try and answer any questions guests may have - no matter what the subject!

Ullapool
Whether you are looking to relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery on our doorstep, or you would like to do something more energetic such as hill walking or fishing there is a huge choice of activities for you to enjoy in and around Ullapool. The village is an ideal base to explore the whole of the North of Scotland, including:

• Achiltibuie, Durness and the North Coast
• the famous Inverewe Gardens and Gairloch to the South
• Dornoch and Dunrobin Castle on the East coast of Sutherland

All of these can be reached by day trips from Ullapool, and each takes in spectacular scenery including dramatic mountains and beautiful sandy beaches. The Western Isles and Outer Hebrides are also easily accessible, with Ullapool being the main ferry port for the Isles of Lewis and Harris.

Ullapool is set amidst some of the most spectacular and dramatic scenery you will find anywhere in the world. Whether you are visiting the area just to relax and take it easy, or you are looking for something more energetic there are a wide range of activities and things to do on offer.

Restaurants
Within easy walking distance of the house, there is an excellent selection of restaurants and eating places in the village, many of which specialize in seafood and local produce.

Sightseeing
Many of our guests use Ullapool as a base, and enjoy day trips to points North, South, East and West. Much of the Northern Highlands can be reached easily within a day, either by car or by public transport. Places to visit include glorious sandy beaches, ancient castles, gardens, caves and much, much more. Boat trips from Ullapool to Isle Martin and the beautiful Summer Isles operate daily during the summer time.

Walking
There are a variety of beautiful walks around the village or further afield. Enjoy the river and hill walks in Ullapool or travel to some of the stunning mountains located within easy reach of the village. Whatever your capabilities, there will be something to suit you - from a gentle stroll to more strenuous mountaineering on the dramatic hills in the North West Highlands.

Fishing
Sea angling, river and loch fishing are popular pastimes for visitors to Ullapool. Fishing permits are available to purchase locally.

Shopping
Ullapool has a variety of shops selling gifts, local produce and souvenirs. Popular items purchased by visitors are woollens, local pottery, books, pictures and locally made sweets, cheese and smoked products.

Gardens
There is a variety of stunning gardens within easy reach of Ullapool - Inverewe (National Trust), Kerracher, Leckmelm, Attadale, Seaview as well as the Hydroponicum at Achiltibuie.

Waterfalls and gorges
10 miles south of Ullapool you can find Corrieshalloch Gorge with the Falls of Measach, - on the road between Inverness and Ullapool you can enjoy the walks and trails around Rogie Falls, - the highest waterfall in Britain (Eas a'Chual Aluinn) is accessible by boat from Kylesku.

DIRECTIONS
Westlea is situated in a quiet, residential tree lined street in the centre of the North West Highland coastal village of Ullapool. Ullapool is reached by road on the A835 from the South and Inverness. Traveling time by road between Inverness and Ullapool is approximately 1 hour.

Directions to Westlea from the Ullapool pier are to head up the hill (Quay Street). Market Street is the third street on the right and Westlea is on your left hand side soon after turning into Market Street.

There is a regular twice daily bus service to Ullapool from Inverness (except Sundays). There are also bus services from the North operating between Ullapool and Durness, Lochinver and Achiltiebuie.

The nearest airport is Inverness airport which has flights from various UK and some European destinations.
Ullapool is also the main ferry port to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.
