When Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived to the Philippines in the 16th century, he gave a statue of baby Jesus, Santo Niño de Cebú, as a present to the wife of the local chieftain.
The wooden Santo Niño is until today a symbol of friendship and conversion to Christianity.
