Set adjacent to the family home, Kanonkop House commands a breathtakingly
beautiful view of the Knysna Lagoon stretching all the way to the
famous Knysna Heads.
Our garden and small indigenous forest attract wildlife and an
abundance of birds – from the elusive Knysna lourie to the
iridescent sunbirds and humble wagtails.
Enjoy their antics while relaxing on a lounger next to the pool,
before venturing down the hill to discover and experience all that
Knysna and the Garden Route has to offer.

Our rooms each have their own character. They are individually created
and named and gorgeously decorated with the ideas and artwork of talented
South African artists.
Paradise is the crème de la crème of bedrooms, offering
the ultimate in opulent accommodation and panoramic views of the entire
Knysna Lagoon.
The king-size bed faces onto double glass doors leading out to a private
balcony set above our indigenous forest. Screened from the bedroom by
wooden shutters, the spacious bathroom has a separate shower and an elevated,
over-sized bath which, too, boasts a spectacular vista.
Paradise sets the scene for romantic indulgence.
Sumptuous Sunbird, situated on the middle level, is
a light filled and spacious room opening onto the garden on one side and
overlooking the forest and lagoon on the other.
A private balcony overlooking the stunning Knysna lagoon is the perfect
place from which to enjoy the sunset (or an early morning coffee).
This ultra-luxurious room has either king-size or single
beds and a comfortable lounge area with satellite television.
The en-suite bathroom has a bath and separate shower and many other fine
touches to make your stay at Kanonkop House as pleasurable as possible.
Stunning new Forest Room spans the lower level and is
set in the indigenous forest with sparkling glimpses of lagoon captured
between the trees.
Forest is a room designed to capture the imagination with stunning individual
touches and luxurious appointments. The sumptuous king size bed (that
can also convert to 2 single beds) allows views out through the large
sliding doors into the forest and the lagoon beyond.
This large open plan room is spacious but cocooned and includes a bath
and separate shower, a reading corner and wall mounted television and
a work nook.
Connect with the forest and the sound of birdsong from the private deck
and relax with a good book in the sun or indoors in your own reading nook.
Lose your worries and be happy in these luxurious adjacent
en-suite rooms.
Spacious, light and airy, Sivuyile and No Matata each
have queen-sized beds, (with the option of an additional single bed if
required) and a seating area with satellite television, music and cd selection.
The en-suite bathrooms include a bath and separate shower.
Each room opens out onto a sun-drenched wooden deck overlooking the pool
and surrounding garden with lagoon views in the distance.
Kanonkop House and the Knysna Heights Villa have wireless internet connectivity
and electricity voltage throughout is 220V.

The Garden Route is a very popular golf destination
with world class courses adorning dramatic cliff tops and scenic countryside.
Knysna is extremely well positioned, making it feasible to play on a different
course every day of the week!
Kanonkop holds corporate membership at two championship courses situated
in Knysna – Pezula, a magnificent course situated on the Eastern
Head overlooking the Indian Ocean and Simola, a Jack Nicklaus signature
course meandering over undulating hills with spectacular vistas.
Pezula and Simola are both listed in Complete Golfer’s twenty most
beautiful courses in SA. Our membership entitles you to play these prestigious
courses at discounted rates.
Other courses in the area include the Knysna Golf Course, the acclaimed
Fancourt Country Club, the George Golf Course (consistently ranked in
the top ten countrywide), Oubaai, Ernie Els’s first signature course,
the Plettenberg Bay Country Club rated in the top 50 SA Courses and the
picturesque Goose Valley Golf Course situated on the banks of the Keurbooms
Lagoon.

Activities:
Out on the water…
A visit to Knysna would be incomplete without spending quality time on
the tranquil waters of the lagoon estuary.
As part of the unique personal service offered at Kanonkop, we offer lagoon
fishing trips with Mark, who is a qualified and experienced skipper, aboard
our fully equipped motor boat.
Mark will also take you waterskiing and wake-boarding and will give tuition
if required.
Or, if you prefer something more relaxing, take a sunset cruise aboard
our luxury speed boat and watch the lagoon transform into shimmering molten
liquid under an orange sky. Spellbinding!
Guests are also welcome to make use of Kanonkop’s double and single
canoes to explore the waterways. We’ll even pack you a picnic lunch!
Head off into the forest…
Whether you prefer a gentle stroll or a strenuous hike, Knysna’s
magnificent, age-old indigenous forests will soothe your soul. There are
numerous trails in the surrounding forests and we will help you select
the one best suited to your fitness level.
For those who enjoy cycling, Kanonkop has two mountain bikes for guest
use and we will transport you to bike trails in the forest and fetch you
later.
Laze on the beach…
There are several fine beaches in the vicinity of Knysna; The beach at
Brenton-on-Sea offers kilometres of rolling waves washing onto pristine
golden sands, defined by towering sand dunes. Magnificent!
Further along is Buffalo Bay, a quaint sea-side village of mismatched
beach bungalows and a safe family swimming beach favoured by both locals
and visitors.
Wind through a eucalyptus plantation to Noetzie; a secluded pristine
cove famous for its turreted castles right on the beach. Ride the turning
tide at Sedgefield as the crystal clear river waters run out to sea, or
investigate the rock pools at nearby Gericke’s point.
Whales, otter, dolphins, seal can all be viewed in the pristine waters
along this magnificent stretch of coast where ancient indigenous forest
and cape fynbos overlook rocky outcrops and secluded beaches.
Savour the flavours…
Good food and memorable meals are an important aspect of any holiday.
Knysna boasts a plethora of restaurants – from gourmet cuisine to
steak-house fare. Many are excellent, a few are best avoided. We will
gladly give recommendations and make a booking at the restaurant of your
choice.
Rub shoulders with the locals at the Friday evening food market just
down the road from Kanonkop where you can pick up a delicious meal for
very little cost.
There is also a farmer’s market in Sedgefield every
Saturday morning which has a great atmosphere with lots to look at and
buy – from organic produce and home-made foodstuffs to local arts
and crafts.
A Shopping extravaganza…
A vibrant mini-metropolis catering largely for the tourist trade, Knysna
offers visitors a wide range of fascinating shopping experiences.
Whether searching for curios at informal road-side markets or browsing
around up-market tourist shops in affluent surroundings, you will be amazed
at the selection and quality.
