Kurhula Lodge is situated on the banks of the Olifants River
in Balule Nature Reserve. Balule is part of the Kruger Park (the
largest nature reserve of South Africa and host to the big five).
The lodge is particularly valued for its high personal service,
excellent cuisine and beautiful surroundings. The best of ‘in
the heart of nature’ in combination with western comforts,
contributes to a unique experience!
The Lodge’s perfect location makes it possible to see several
highlights of the area within one and a half hours reach. After
an excited day, you can relax at Kurhula Wildlife Lodge.
Kurhula Lodge is situated halfway in between Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa
(Limpopo province) bordering with the Kruger National Park.

This park is the biggest and oldest wildlife park in the world. The park
was founded in 1926 and is more than 2 million hectares in extend. The
nearest entrance gates to the Kruger National Park are the Phalaborwa
gate and the Orpen Gate.
Kurhula Lodge Accommodation
Kurhula Lodge has four double rooms. From your veranda you have an exquisite
view of the Olifants river. All rooms have extra length beds, air conditioning,
mosquito nets,safe, hairdryer, a wardrobe, desk with chair and coffee
and tea facilities. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower, toilet and a
double basin.
All accommodation is on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis (DBB), serving
a sumptuous breakfast on the veranda of the main lodge.
At night we serve an African three course meal with an European touch.
Should you have any special dietary requirements please notify us beforehand
and we will make sure that all requests are met. Lunch is available on
request.

Other activities
Visit Mafunyani Tribal Village, the mine of Phalaborwa, the former gold
diggers town Pilgrim’s Rest and learn about the history of South
Africa. Discover how silk, tea and Amarula (South African liquor) is made.
Wildlife
The Kruger National Park is the best safari destination in South Africa
where you can explore the big five in your own vehicle at your own pace.
If requested you can participate in a game drive escorted by an experienced
game tracker / ranger.
We organize game drives and bush walks in Parsons Nature Reserve. Duration
of the drive or walk is between 2 and 3 hours.
Next to Kurhula Lodge are other game farms like “Tshukudu Game Reserve”
(5000 hectares) where day visitors are welcome. Go horse back or elephant
back riding. Enjoy a bush walk with a local ranger, visit rehabilitation
centres or feed Jessica the local tame hippopotamus.
Landscapes
The Panorama Route hailed as one of South Africa’s most scenic drives
stretches from Johannesburg to the Kruger Park. Enjoy this magnificent
view where you will find places of interest like the famous Gods window,
pinnacle rock, wonderview and the three rondavels.
Choose one of the many hiking trails through the Drakensberg, stop and
see the beauty of one of the many waterfalls and the huge diversity of
plants which this part of Africa has to offer. You can also opt to do
the 4x4 route to Mariepskop and enjoy the spectacular view over the Lowveld.
Magoebaskloof
The mountain pass of Magoebaskloof winds its way up over the hills of
the Wolkberg. This spectacular pass is one of the most popular landscape
routes in Southern Africa.
You can also stop on your way from Kurhula Lodge to see the biggest and
oldest Baobab tree of South Africa. It is estimated at over 2000 years
old.
