Deep in the Baviaans River Mountains near where they join the Winterberg range, in the scenic and malaria- free Eastern Cape, lays Huntly Glen. Only 3 hours’ drive from the airport cities of East London and Port Elizabeth, in the Bedford district this is an ideal venue for a weekend getaway or a hunting safari. Huntly Glen is the historic home of the family of Thomas Pringle, leader of the 1820 Scottish Settler Party and 5th generation Ernest and Anne Pringle invite you to share this idyllic spot with them and to learn about this fascinating area. |

Stay in a neatly restored and fully furnished farm-house. There are 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, of which 2 are en-suite. The 2 other rooms share a bathroom and separate toilet. The kitchen is fully equipped, where the lounge and dining room each have their own fire-place for those chilly winter evenings.
On the one side of the house there is a braai/boma area and on the other, a large patio with un-ending views across the mountains. The large patio makes for a wonderful area to sit and relax while watching kudu as they quietly make their way across the opposite slope down to the water trough.
The house is far enough removed from the main homestead to ensure complete peace and quiet. The house is let out on a self-catering basis, so it is ideal for group bookings. To ensure complete privacy, when a group or a couple books the house they have exclusive use of it for the duration of their stay.
For those who prefer full catering it can be arranged, with all meals consisting of traditional farm fare made with the freshest organically grown farm produce and meat. In addition to the above guest house, there is also a 1-bedroom flat let at the main homestead.
Activities
Surrounded by mountains, vistas and immense peace and quiet, Huntly Glen
offers a getaway for those who love the outdoors and tranquility. This
is a “working farm” and we have made every effort to make
Huntly Glen your home away from home.
Join in with the daily activities and learn a bit about farming. Depending
on the time of year, be shown how to “throw a fleece” or shear
a sheep or angora goat. At lambing or goat kidding time there is also
the possibility of helping to bottle-feed orphan lambs or kids.
You will have ample opportunity to view game such as the Greater East
Cape Kudu, Red Hartebeest, Black Wildebeest, Zebra, Steenbuck, Grysbuck
and Bushbuck in the more densely wooded areas, Springbuck (both common
and black), Mountain Reedbuck, Warthog, Dassies, Baboons and Vervet monkeys
in their natural habitat.
Due to the road system, there is a vast network of tracks, trails and roads that criss-cross the farm, which makes it ideal for viewing game. High clearance vehicles can safely navigate these roads which allow guests to self-drive the farm roads, alternatively a night drive and sundowners in the mountains can be organized.
For the energetic, these tracks and trails provide hours of adventurous entertainment for Hikers, Mountain Bikers or Trail Runners.
Closer to the house, there is a tennis court, dam and swimming pool available.
Gazing at our starry night skies is an absolute must for all.
When not game viewing, take a picnic lunch and relax beneath the river
willows next to the bass dam or disappear for the day for a picnic at
one of our many wonderful picnic areas.
