Thabatholo Lodge
Aptly translated meaning “Mountain of the Kudu”. The secluded
fully equipped luxury bush lodge surrounded by scenic mountains has four
bedrooms, each with two single beds, three bathrooms and a large four
bedded loft room with bathroom.
Outside is a thatched all weather living area with undercover braai and
plunge pool. It’s ideal for family reunions or small conferences.
With a miniature man made stream and stunning rock pool for Thabatholo
guest's use, you are assured of a memorable stay. This lodge is situated
in the kloof and looks out on a waterhole. This is the largest and most
modern lodge on the property.
Kundalila Cottage
Situated at the foot of the mountain, Kundalila meaning “Cooing
Dove” in the Bemba Language of Zambia, was the second farmhouse
to be built on the property. Being part of the reserve with animals all
around, Kundalila has two comfortably furnished bedrooms, a bathroom and
fully equipped open plan lounge / kitchen.
The lovely large all weather thatched lapa with built in braai serves
as an outdoor living area, a double car port is situated next to cottage
to ensure your car's comfort as well as yours.
An exclusive plunge pool is approximately 50metres from cottage for your
enjoyment. KunKuru formed part of the original Morgenzon farm, which was
many thousands of hectares in size, until the late 1800’s, when
it was divided into smaller farms.
The very first dwelling was built in the 1800’s adjacent to the
“Morgenzon Spring” (behind the mountain) and is now in ruin.
Kundalila was struck by lightning in the early 1960’s so the farmer
built a similar structure where the main lodge is.
Kundalila, being situated in such a scenic spot could not be forgotten
and was rebuilt in 1984 and refurbished in 1998 with the lapa then being
added. Since electrical power only came to the reserve in the 1980’s
“donkey boilers” and generators were used. The original generator
room and donkey is still untouched.
Thlapi Metzi Cottage
The meaning of the words Thlapi Metzi are “Waters of the Fish”,
and is KunKuru’s pride and joy, specially for honeymooners and romantic
couples.
This chalet was built in 1999 on the banks of “Loch Rossi”
a fish filled dam - cum watering hole. It is a thatched structure with
an upstairs loft bedroom and a twin bedroom downstairs.
This chalet is fully equipped with a full kitchen, fridge, stove and custom
made crockery. It also boasts water side boma and braai area together
with a rock “swimming hole” for your exclusive use. This is
a favourite of all KunKuru's visitors and early bookings are essential
especially during the summer months.
Mokhoti Historical Cottage
A quaint refurbished “Pilgrims Rest” type miners' cottage.
A two bedroomed, one bathroom cottage with a lovely all weather thatched
lapa with a built-in fire place. Delightfully re-created using artefacts
of the days gone by, and steeped in an atmosphere of Africa’s pioneering
past.
Lovely views of the bush and game roaming past. Large main bedroom with
double bed and two extra single beds for children.
The second bedroom with it's two single beds ensure comfortable sleeping
arrangements for 4 – 6 people. This is the oldest building on KunKuru
and was built in 1943. Mokhoti is a Tswana word for mine hence, the name
as the mine manager of the Fluorspar mine, that was active in the 1940’s
and closed down in 1953 lived in this cottage.
The cottage has been renovated and a lapa added. Some of the original
doors and windows were kept. The store outside was once a “long
Drop” and wash room as there was no piped water or electricity on
the site.
Most of the fittings in the cottage have been made from artefacts found
nearby. The curtain rod holders are made from sleeper bolts from the mine
and the toilet roll holder is made from the protection plate from the
draw bar or “Disselboom” of an old cart or ox wagon. The shower
is made from an old watering can (Still calibrated in gallons), the ceramic
basin was made and fired on the property.
Maru Muwane Mountain Camp
In the Tswana language Maru Muwane means "Clouds and Mist".
The camp is situated on top of the Boshoffsberg Mountain range. This is
a beautiful camp site, but it is only accessible with 4x4 vehicles.

named after the birds who naturally inhabit the mountain. These two cabins
both consist of twin beds in each, with basic bedding and towels.
There is a luxury thatched lapa with well protected boma and braai area.
