This is a cosy haven for those who like old fashioned holidays, with peace and quiet, excellent home-style cooking, reading near the fireplace, playing board games and pleasant company; as well as a wonderful base to experience the mighty Drakensberg. An ideal retreat for individuals, families or groups either self catered or fully catered.
Accommodation at Vergezient Lodge
The Lodge, which has 10 rooms, is usually booked by individuals and families and offers a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. A fully stocked bar is offered.
Room 1 - Upstairs, very large with a queen bed and 1 single bed. Has lounge area and en-suite bathroom with shower. Has wonderful views of the mountains Max 3 guests
Room 2 - Small with a beautiful view of the mountains. Has 1 queen bed and an open plan shower with seperate toilet and basin. Max 2 guests
Room 3 - Very large with 1 queen bed and 2 single beds. Has comfortable lounge area, open plan shower and a seperate toilet and basin. Has beautiful views of the mountains. Max 4 guests

Vergezient Lodge with its numerous lounges and fireplaces is comfortably furnished and blends rustic charm with old fashioned elegance. The Lodge has tastefully decorated en-suite bedrooms and a number of bedrooms have their own lounges; some with fireplaces.
The lounge, dining-room and enclosed veranda offer generous and comfortable spaces with a 100km long panoramic view of the central and northern Drakensberg including the Amphitheatre and Royal Natal National Park. It is said to be one of the best views of the Drakensberg.
Food is an important part of your stay at Drakensberg Mountain Retreat and our excellent home cooking prepared with passion is loved by the guests, especially the 3 course, set menu candlelit dinners.
At Vergezient Lodge, dinner, breakfast, as well as morning and afternoon tea, are included. We also offer packed lunches for those wanting to get out to enjoy the surrounding area as well. These are not included in our rates and can be ordered from the kitchen between 12:30 and 13:30
Breakfast is served from 7h30 to 09h00. Enjoy fresh fruit, yogurt and cereal and then order your full English breakfast from the helpful staff. Dinner is served at 19:00 is a 3 course, set meal served by candle light. We do cater for any dietary requirements. We have received endless compliments on our home style cooking served by the fire place in the dining room.
Children: Children are welcome. Please note since we want adults to enjoy the quiet candle light dinner children younger than 12 will be served earlier and will then be entertained in the games room next door while the parents enjoy their dinner.

Being in the wild foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains walking, hiking or even adventure trekking are obvious activities on offer from easy strolls to grueling expeditions taking days. There are a number of well set-out walking and hiking trails which allow you to enjoy the varied landscape and flora of Drakensberg Mountain Retreat. The trails vary in difficulty and distance and are well mapped and marked. Experienced local guides are available.
The local Basotho and Zulu cultural villages offer opportunities to rub shoulders with the local inhabitants who have lived in the area for hundreds of years. Immerse yourself in their age-old tales of bloodshed that played out between the groups of black, brown, African and European as they battled for power, wealth and land in the fertile surrounding valleys.
For many, the true spirit of Adventure lies in the animals of Africa.
Whether they be in the many game and nature reserves or forever captured
in paint and colour in the myriad caves throughout the mountains.
For sportsmen excellent fishing and boating can be had in the many dams.
Yellowfish, carp and bass are generally the fish on offer.
Arts and crafts abound. Fortune hunters can visit the many stalls, markets and studios looking for the ultimate treasure to adorn a wall, table or patio back home.
