Accommodation at Wits End

Our small owner run resort has 9 comfortably furnished chalets all with magnificent mountain views and fireplaces for cosy winter evenings. The atmosphere is relaxed, the chalets carefully appointed for privacy and the resort is centrally located in one of the most popular tourist areas in the country.

All chalets are fully equipped with stoves, ovens, microwaves, fridge/freezer, cable TV, fans, heaters, safes, fireplaces, covered verandas and individual braai areas. The resort has a rock pool and lapha alongside which is an outdoor braai area with a pizza oven and Mongolian braai ideal for group entertaining.

These are available as self-catering, but we also have a functions centre accommodation up to 160 with a dining facility offering breakfast, tea, lunch and dinner for groups by arrangement.

The Cabbage Tree Cafe’
Situated at Wits End in our stunning functions centre is the Cabbage Tree Cafe’. This facility is open to our guests only and we offer by prior arrangement breakfasts, teas and lunches as well as evening meals and functions for bigger groups.

Activities at Wits End
The unspoilt property on which Wits End is situated is a nature lover’s paradise with indigenous forests and mountain grasslands and a wealth of flora and fauna. Guests can take a leisurely stroll along one of our nature trails through the forests, grasslands and along the dam and river.

Bird watching enthusiasts will find an abundance of species along the trails as well as amongst the chalets where the exclusively indigenous gardens are in keeping with our ecologically friendly policy. Other wildlife to thrive on the property includes various species of buck, Natal otter, water mongoose, civet cat, porcupine and jackal.

Our 10 acre dam is among the largest in the area. It is stocked with Rainbow trout and Natal yellow fish so guests can enjoy fly fishing as well as canoeing. Fly fishing at Wits End is for our guests only and is free of charge but operates on a strict “catch and release” policy. As the dam is not heavily fished some good catches have been recorded.

Hiking trails of the Champagne Valley area of the Central Drakensberg
The Central Drakensberg’s Champagne Valley offers a great variety of hiking trails to suit most hiking enthusiasts from short beginner ambles to the more adventurous overnight trails.

The Champagne Valley is a unique area in the Drakensberg as the valley itself is some 1200 metres above sea level with a moderate climate and yet is surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the Drakensberg range of which Champagne Castle is one of the highest at 3377 metres.
