Situated on the corner of Berg and Cilliers Streets, and just a 10 minute walk from the town square, Blacksmith’s Cottage is one of the few remaining original sandstone cottages in Clarens, dating back to beginning of the 1900’s, full of the history and charm, that has made the town of Clarens the popular get-away destination that it is today.

This thatch-roofed, self catering cottage is quaint and cosy, with enormous appeal for people who want to get away from the rat race and enjoy some time of peace and quiet.

It is reminiscent of the uncluttered and simple life that old established residents of Clarens have come to treasure so dearly.
It is situated in what is known amongst locals as the ‘swartland’ of Clarens, and is surrounded by hills and mountains, Titanic Rock being the most significant feature.

Blacksmiths Cottage Accommodation

The cottage has two bedrooms. The main bedroom is carpeted and has a queen size extra length bed, with under-carpet heating.
The second bedroom is furnished with a single bed, and a built in bunk bed with comfortable mattresses for adults and children alike. Altogether, the cottage sleeps 5 people.
Blacksmith’s has one bathroom with a bath, toilet and basin. All linen and towels are provided with extra blankets for cold nights.

he kitchen is well equipped with a free standing 4 plate electric stove and oven, microwave oven, toaster, kettle, kitchen utensils, and ample glasses, crockery and cutlery to host a family.
Complimentary tea, coffee, and are also provided. Table and chairs in the kitchen make it a lovely place to sit and socialize while meals are being prepared or just to linger over a cup of morning coffee.

The lounge is central to the cottage, carpeted with under-floor heating, and is a comfortable place to relax, read and listen to music.
A CD player is provided, as well as a selection of CD’s for the guest’s enjoyment. A chandelier suspended from the roof beams, completes the picture, and it adds charm and romance to one’s stay.

Just in front of the cottage, a thatched boma and braai area with a weber braai and patio furniture, provides an undercover outdoor area for meals and relaxation. The property is fully fenced and undercover parking is provided for one vehicle on site.

Activities and Attractions
Blacksmith’s Cottage is well situated for great walks around Clarens, whether up to the town square or along the walking trails that have been laid out for hiking.
Many of them have their starting points in and around the vicinity of the cottage. Visitors to Clarens in the Free State have a variety of activities to choose from and they include, white water rafting, horse riding, quad biking, hiking, tennis, squash, trout fishing, art courses, golf, abseiling, mountain trails and nature reserves which also have some bushman paintings.
