The Rooiberge ('red mountain' in Afrikaans) in shades of pink and yellow is the range encompassing the village, whilst further on towards the southeast, the mighty Maloti’s (‘mountains’ in Sesotho) stands proud in shades of blue and purple. The village is widely known as the “Jewel of the Free State” - rich in beauty, with an aura of peace and tranquillity.
Clarens is endowed with more trees than most Free State towns - the fresh, light green willows and the colourful blossoms of the fruit trees are an unforgettable sight in spring; whilst the magnificent autumn shades of the lombard poplars attract artists, photographers and nature lovers.
Chalet Thabela Accommodation
Our chalet offers fully furnished and equipped self-catering accommodation for one or two people. The chalet has a double bed, satellite TV (basic channels only), dining area, en-suite bathroom, fully equipped kitchenette. Through the patio door is a patio with braai (BBQ) facility and lovely views of Mount Horeb.

How To Get To Chalet Thabela
From Bethlehem
Take the N5 towards Durban, travel for approximately 10km and take the
right-hand Clarens / Golden Gate turn. Travel a further 32 km to Clarens,
as you drive down the hill, the golf course will be on your left and Clarens
will be on your right (the Golden Gate Highlands National Park is straight
on).
Near the bottom of the hill take the right-hand turn into Clarens. You
must first collect your Chalet key from Mountain Odyssey Tourist Information
Centre. Drive up Main Street and Mountain Odyssey is about 50m on the
left (before you reach President Square).
To get to your chalet you must turn around and go back down Main Street. Just before the junction where you entered Clarens is a small cross-roads - take the right-hand turn and drive past the shops, cafes and Engen petrol station. Continue down this road and enter the Larola complex (watch out for traffic calming road humps). There is a small hotel on your left. About 50m after the hotel is a small road to the left (Trans Caledon Street).
Take this, and then after a further 50m is a steep driveway on your left taking you to the Larola Chalets covered parking. Park your car in the bay number appropriate to your Chalet number. Your chalet is directly in front of you (look for the name Chalet Thabela (No. 22).
