Self Catering Penthouse
Our self catering penthouse, decorated with a subtle ethnic touch can be configured to accommodate up to four guests in two bedrooms. There is a fold-down Futon sleeper couch in the lounge area for additional guests or children price on enquiry for sleeper couch.
The unit is fully equipped and features private balconies from the lounge area mountain facing and second bedroom village square facing. Other features include mountain views, fan, fireplace, balcony / patio and smoking in the rooms is prohibited.

6x Double Luxury Rooms
Each room features hand crafted four poster beds, Persian carpets, selected antiques, Morris chairs, under-tile heating and full en-suite bathroom , has a sitting area with an open fireplace and comfortable Morris chairs, where complimentary drinks and chocolates await your arrival.
Fully tiled bathrooms are with a shower, bath and wall heater. For your comfort, under tile heating takes the chill from cold winter nights whilst ceiling fans cool those balmy summer evenings.

3 rooms face the mountain views and the other three the village square. Other features include tea / coffee facilities, radios, fireplace, hairdryer, TV with DSTV, balcony / patio, mountain views, fan and smoking in the rooms is prohibited.

How To Get To Red Mountain House

From Johannesburg
Take the N3 Durban Highway, take the Villiers (South) turnoff (after the Vaal One Stop rest area) and travel to Frankfort (R26). Approximately 30km you will get to a T-junction (just before Frankfort) - turn right (R26).
Approximately 1km just after the town of Frankfort go over a bridge (Wilge River) and take the first left turn to Tweeling & Reitz (R26). After approx. 60km you will reach a 4-way stop (just outside Reitz) - continue straight to Bethlehem (R26).

Approx. 50km brings you to Bethlehem - keep on same road and continue straight out of town (road becomes N5 to Kestell & Harrismith). Approx.2km after Bethlehem turn right to Clarens & Golden Gate road (R712). Clarens is approximately 25km.

Turn right at the Clarens sign, carry on up the small hill (300m) to a T-Junction. (The town square is in front of you), turn left, first right and Red Mountain House is on your left, halfway round the square, 100m from the T - Junction.
Red Mountain House is a double story building over - looking the village square. Park immediately in front of the building. Follow the signs to reception.

From Durban
Take the N3 to Johannesburg, continue straight until you come to the Shell Ultra City at Escort. Travel approximately 3km and take the off -ramp R74 Winterton / Frere. At the top of the off ramp turn left to Colenso / Bergville. Carry on straight until you reach Bergville, and continue towards the Oliviershoek Pass.
Travel up and over the pass and on towards Harrismith / QWA QWA, from the top of Oliviershoek Pass carry on to the intersection (28km). At the T junction turn left onto the R 712 (Qwa-Qwa Phuthatijhaba), bypass the Phuthatijhaba turnoff and keep going towards Golden Gate National Park .

Travel through the Golden Gate pass, and carry on toward Clarens. Turn left into Clarens – at the top of the hill you will reach a T-Junction. (The town square is in front of you), turn left, first right and we are on your left halfway round the square.

The Alternative Route
Get onto the N3 West to Johannesburg and carry on until you reach Harrismith. Take the road to Bethlehem / Bloemfontein, the road becomes the R5. Bypass Harrismith on your RIGHT and after a few kilometers you will see the town of Kestell on your LEFT.
Keep on until you come to a sign that says Golden Gate / Clarens / Fouriesburg / Highland Route R712 . (Approx 5 km on the Natal side of Bethlehem. Your landmark is a large dam on your right hand side).

Turn Left towards Golden Gate, follow this road until you come upon Clarens. Turn right into Clarens – carry on to T-Junction. (The town square is in front of you) Turn left, first right and we are on your left halfway round the square.

From Kimberley / Bloemfontein
From Kimberley take the R59 to Boshoff, the R64 to Dealesville and the R64 to Bloemfontein. Leave Bloemfontein on the R64 towards Botshabelo / Tweespruit.
Continue on the R64 to Ladybrand. Before Ladybrand the road becomes the R26. Continue on the R26 and bypass Ladybrand, continue towards Clocolan.

Bypass Clocolan, continue to Ficksburg, bypass Ficksburg, continue to Fouriesburg. At the first turn-off to Fouriesburg turn right onto the R711. Continue on the R711 for approximately 40km till you reach the first Clarens turnoff. Turn left into Clarens.
Continue up road till you come to main street, turn right into main, carry on down road to T-junction, turn right then first left around the square. Red Mountain House is a double story building on the right hand side.
