Stonecutters Lodge is a holiday, trout fishing and
conference venue of exceptional quality. |
|
The fully serviced self-catering accommodation comprises Stone Cottage
(2-bed roomed), The Trout House (3-bed roomed) and the Cobbles Studios,
which are ideal for couples.
Recently refurbished, all the accommodation is furnished and equipped
to the highest standards. Dinners and breakfasts are available by prior
arrangement.
Stonecutters Lodge lies in a beautiful setting between mountains and river.
It offers a base for malaria free holidays and tours to nearby game lodges
and well-known tourist attractions.
Each facility provides a different ambience - six luxurious studios,
The Cobbles (sleeping 2 each), Stone Cottage (sleeping 4) and Trout House
(sleeping 6).
Stone Manor houses the reception rooms, conference facility and office.
Twenty-two guests or delegates can be accommodated (sharing) in the various
houses at the lodge.
Should single rooms be required, Stonecutters can sleep eleven guests
on the estate. All the accommodation is self-catering and braais are provided.
Guests may choose self-catering or Bed and Breakfast.
Breakfast baskets are a popular alternative to the full breakfast. Packed
with Continental treats, there is a champagne option for those who want
to add some sparkle to their week-end! Dinners are available by prior
arrangement.
Stone Manor is the gathering point for guests at Stonecutters Lodge.
The luxurious building houses the reception rooms, dining area, the pub
and the conference boardroom.
A large fireplace dominates the double-volume lounge and dining area.
Approximately twenty guests can dine here in comfort. Furnishings are
stylish throughout - impressing even the most discerning guests.
The Cat’s Whiskers Pub, with its cosy fireplace and DStv can be
a great place to meet new friends. Stone Manor is set in a natural garden
where a bubbling waterfall cascades into a natural pond.
The patio fronting the house is a shaded outdoor area for meals and relaxation.
Enjoy breakfast or sundowners on the wooden deck jutting over the water.
The Cobbles are luxury self-catering suites. There are six en-suite (shower only) studios, each sleeping two people. Built as three freestanding units with under tile and under carpet heating, the studios nestle among tall pine trees with dramatic views of the distant mountains from the wooden, covered decks. A recent refurbishment ensures accommodation of the highest standard: Each kitchenette has a granite top, a gas hob, a microwave and a below counter fridge. The interiors are stylishly furnished with king size or twin beds and the décor has a touch of Africa. DStv is provided with a selection of channels. A Jet-master gas braai is built-in on the wooden deck of each studio next to comfortable cane furniture.
The Trout House is a well-appointed double story overlooking the two
dams. The three bed roomed, en suite house sleeps six people comfortably.
Downstairs bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms that are suitably designed
for wheel-chair access. The superb open plan kitchen has granite tops,
dishwasher and microwave oven and opens onto a cosy lounge/dining area
with leather couches and Oregon pine dining suite and elegate furnishings.
Whether darkness finds you swapping fishing stories around the lapa bonfire
next to the dams, or sipping port indoors at the cosy fireplace, or lying
in bed and listening to the fish rising, you cannot fail to be enchanted
with Trout House.
Stone Cottage, with elevated views over the estate, is a well-appointed
country style cottage. Nestling on the edge of a pine forest in a private
setting.
The large main bedroom is en suite and the smaller second bedroom has
an adjacent shower room both leading onto an open plan, comfortably furnished
lounge with TV (selected DStv channels).
The well-equipped open plan galley kitchen with granite tops has an under
counter fridge, freezer and electric oven, a four plate gas hob, and a
microwave.
The covered patios are spacious and there is a barbeque for the outdoor
cooking experience. For those seeking quiet, comfort and complete seclusion,
Stone Cottage with its cosy fireplace is idyllic.
Stonecutters Lodge is ideal for exclusive management meetings, strategic
planning sessions and team-building getaways. The boardroom is well equipped,
including data projector for big screen projection of presentations, videos,
DVD's and DStv numerous blue-chip businesses from various industries.
Groups of up to 20 delegates are assured of exclusivity and personal service
from management and staff. This superb small conference venue is only
2.5 hours from O.R Tambo International Airport.
If you’re planning that special occasion – be it a birthday,
engagement party or a small wedding. Stonecutters Lodge is an ideal small
venue sleeping 22 people sharing and additional guests can be accommodated
in the many hotels and B&B establishments in the area.
Fine wines and gleaming cutlery complement the cuisine, while laughter
and camaraderie ensure that guests leave with indelible memories.
Stonecutters Lodge lies between Dullstroom and Lydenburg, in the heart
of South Africa’s fly and trout fishing territory and is bordered
by the Dorps River for three kilometers.
Stone-packed riffles and still deep pools can be enjoyed by enthusiastic
fly-fishermen whilst their family and friends picnic beside this accessible,
pristine and free-flowing river.
The ongoing management and maintenance of the river and its banks ensures
the best possible fishing experience. There is natural breeding in the
river and the breeding is supplemented by stocking on a regular basis.
There are two dams, measuring a quarter of a hectare and one hectare
respectively. A jetty serves each dam and both dams are well stocked.
Catch and release is permitted on the waters.
Fly-fishing tuition may be arranged and is worthwhile for both newcomers
to the sport or for those wishing to hone their skills particularly with
regard to river fishing, which requires different techniques to dam fishing.
Clinics may be run by professionals for groups or parties wishing to do
a team-build or expert guides may be hired on a one on one basis for the
experienced angler. Beginners can make use of a local guide who can teach
the basics.
A visit to the Bird of Prey Centre just beyond Dullstroom gives a fascinating
insight into bird rehabilitation and raptor behaviour as well as displays
of falconry. Horse riding and quad-bike riding are available nearby.
Lydenburg, 15 minutes from Stonecutters Lodge, offers golf, tennis and
bowls and practical shopping for those requiring provisions. Visit the
small Lydenburg museum displaying the Lydenburg Heads, an early example
of African sculpture and a display of Voortrekker memorabilia.
