Rockwood Forest Lodge is located on the banks of the Godwini stream within the indigenous forest of the Karkloof Nature Reserve.
Rockwood Forest Lodge Accommodation
The lodges offer luxury self-catering accommodation to those who appreciate the natural beauty and tranquility of an indigenous African forest. Bushbuck, Blue Duiker and Samango monkeys are frequent camp visitors.
The Lodge Comprises:
· Kettle in each room.
· Heaters in all bedrooms – winter.
· Marked walks to waterfall and cycles.
· Supply of reference books on the fauna and flora.
· Twin Bed 1 Upstairs – 2 Single Beds, en-suite
shower.
· Tea, coffee, salt, pepper and cooking oil provided
supplied.
· Rockwood Forest Lodge is electrified and water
is drinkable.
· Main Bed Upstairs- King size bed, own bathroom
with bath.
· Towels, linen, duvets, blankest, soap and shampoo
provided.
· Unique wooden structure sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms
and 3 bathrooms.
· Exclusive access to Karkloof Nature Reserve
for all Rockwood guests.
· A selection of board games is available from
housekeeping staff – please request.
· Large entertainment deck overlooking the stream,
weber and braai briquettes provided.
· A short drive to private jungle gym/trampoline
area (for exclusive use by Rockwood guests).
Activities:
For the adventurous, there are a number of activities including mountain biking, fishing, swimming (in natural pools) or the famous Karkloof Canopy Tour which offers a thrilling way to learn more about our forests while hanging 40 meter above the ground.
Fishing
Trout and bass fishing is possible in the Godwini Dam, on your way to
Rockwood Forest Lodge. In addition there are several fishing weirs within
the Reserve. Follow the signs to Karkloof East (Mountain Lodge). Access
with four-wheel-drive only. Please bring your own fishing equipment. We
are in the process of stocking the two dams at Spitzkop farm.
Swimming
There are several splash pools in the river around Forest Lodge. The weirs
are excellent for swimming at Rockwood Mountain Lodge. The two dams on
Spitzkop farm are available for guests of both Rockwood Farm House and
Farm Cottage and there are at least 4 inner tubes available for tubing.
Birding
Birding on the forest fringes can offer some excellent rewards to birders.
Some of the more elusive species found are the Cape Parrot, Narina Trogon,
Crested Guinea Fowl and the Crowned Eagle. The list attached has been
compiled over many years and we have decided to start it again with guest
sightings.
Game Viewing
There is limited game viewing within the Reserve. In the mornings you
are likely to see bushbuck (nkonka) grazing around the lodge. These timid
animals are found throughout the forest. Morning visitations from the
gregarious Samango monkeys and blue duiker (impithi) are likely.
