A luxury self-catering holiday home, ideal for holidays in or around Cape Town. Longbeach Lodge sleeps 4, 6 or even eight guests in 4-star luxury holiday accommodation very close to the beach in Kommetjie, Cape Town – a spacious and beautifully appointed seaside holiday cottage with swimming pool, providing spacious accommodation for up to eight guests. Longbeach Lodge is less than a minute's drive from wild and wonderful Kommetjie Long Beach, a world famous surfing beach. It is totally charming, luxurious and sophisticated, with a romantic beach pool set in truly beautiful and totally private surroundings, and offers relaxed, comfortable and affordable accommodation in the picturesque Cape Peninsula.

Longbeach Lodge Accommodation

The 4-star self-catering accommodation comprises 3 luxury double bedrooms in the main house, one with bunk beds and the master bedroom with queen bed and an en-suite bathroom, the second with double bed and family bathroom, and the third with bunk beds.
A pretty timber cottage in the garden, close to the main house, provides a fourth luxury double bedroom serviced by a very characterful and fun ‘Out Of Africa’ outside shower, basin and toilet like a game lodge.
A wall safe has recently been added for jewellery and valuables, ensuring peace of mind for guests.

So, four guests would be wonderful, six would be sublime and eight still perfect. There's also a camper-cot for a babe-in-arms, a high chair and a safety net for the pool.

Three inside entertaining areas all open to a brilliant and quite enchanting covered outside dining area with a 8-seater table lit by a real candle chandelier and a built-in barbeque. A galley kitchen features state-of the-art marble worktops, plenty of cupboards, washing machine and dishwasher.

A beautiful, tear-shaped “beach” pool sparkles in a totally private and lush sub-tropical garden, with deck chairs and a large sunshade. Even beach chairs and beach umbrella are provided for the beach, to ensure your complete lazy, hazy, surf-side enjoyment.
There’s also a burglar alarm, a large double garage and stacks of secure, off – street parking.

It’s less than a minute's drive from wild and wonderful Kommetjie Longbeach, a world famous surfing venue, and also close to a small river that you can walk down to get there – in just 5 minutes.
By day it’s a sheltered, restful haven in a beautiful and mellow setting and at night the sea is sometimes so loud it’s as if you’re sleeping in the dunes.

10 best things to do at Longbeach Lodge...
These things you absolutely have to do during your stay at Glen Cottage. You’re in a unique area of the world and almost all these amazing experiences are unique to this area.
1.Surf those waves:
The surf’s always up at Kommetjie Longbeach! It’s easy to spend days lapping up the sunshine watching the surfers, kite-surfers and body-boarders but how about doing it yourself? No better place to start than Kommetjie! Grab a wetsuit and a surf or body board from the Kommetjie Surf Shop at Post Office House, Huskisson Way, Kommetjie, and take to the waves. You’ll be surprised how quickly you get the hang of it!

2.Swim with the penguins:
Glen Cottage is only 10 – 15 minutes away from False Bay (warmer waters), and Simon’s Town, where you’ll find Boulders Beach. There are over 3000 African ‘Jackass’ Penguins living here and the area is now a National Park. You can see them up close as they frolic in the water and waddle on land, and this is the one place in the world where you can actually swim and sunbathe with them. In a survey done by the BBC, Boulders Beach was rated one of the five best beaches to visit before you die.

3.Spend a day at Cape Point:
Don’t even think of not spending a day at this landmark at the south-westernmost tip of Africa – it’s a must! Home to 1750 different types of fynbos, 245 bird species and 58 mammals (including several species of large buck, zebra, ostrich and baboons, the reserve is a scenic spectacular of rugged, rocky outcrops, sheer cliffs, and rolling, fynbos-covered plains. Take the funicular high above the ocean to the old lighthouse or tackle one of a number of magnificent hiking trails, including a one-hour trail from the peak to the cove of the Cape of Good Hope. Enjoy a meal at The Two Oceans Restaurant perched high above crashing waves - great seafood and staggering Atlantic and Indian Ocean views.

4.Cruise with the sharks:
African Shark Eco-Charters, based in Simon’s Town, will take you out by boat early morning into False Bay to watch the great white sharks breach around Seal Island - where the seals breed - followed by a shark cage dive (www.ultimate-animals.com). You don’t need any previous diving experience - just bring a warm sweater, your camera and some sunblock! Or you can try one of their cruises into deep blue water to see pelagic birds and watch the great shoals of yellow fin tuna running.

5.Walk with the baboons:
People in the know say this experience is second only to seeing the mountain gorillas. Spend the morning in the mountains above Kommetjie with a guide from Baboon Matters. He or she will take you up where you’ll meet and spend intimate time with Eric and his troop and learn how important these endangered primates are to the mountain. Let the baby baboons play with your shoelaces while you snap up close and personal pics of the Kommetjie troop interacting, feeding and playing.

6.Take the day off:
A local Kommetjie outfit called Seascape Tours specialize in arranging amazing days out, especially for you (www.seascapetours.com). It’s run by Tim and Dot Cummings and they’ll arrange any day out you care to mention. Here are a few tour ideas: Cape Point; Cape Peninsula; Whale Route; Waterfront Shopping; Masiphumelele Township; The Cape Winelands and/or Constantia Winelands. They can also take you cray fishing by boat at Kommetjie – and then later, help you barbeque and eat your catch - great fun and very tasty, too!

7.Horse ride the Longbeach surf:
It’s just so romantic ambling along in the breakers together on horseback. From Imhoff Farm, a little way up the road, you can ride out through the Cape fynbos countryside to the surf, where you can spend a few hours riding along this breathtaking beach and back again. Imhoff also offer lots of stuff for kids, including camel rides, donkey rides, a snake and reptile park, farm shop, tea garden and fresh cheeses.

8.Walk Longbeach to Skebengas:
Walk Longbeach from Kommetjie all the way to Noordhoek (approx 1½hours), taking in the wreck of the Kakapo, c.1900, on the way, and visit Skebengas Pub at the Red Herring, Noordhoek, famous for it’s draught Guinness and mouth-watering pizzas! (And after that, walk back, of course!!) In the right season, you’ll see whales and dolphins and if you walk it very early in the morning you might see a Cape Clawless Otter fishing in the inter-tidal zone. Either way you have the pounding surf on one side, miles of empty beach on the other and stunning views all round!

9.Enjoy Cape Cuisine at it's best:

· Rioja, at Solole Game Reserve, five minutes away along Kommetjie Road, offers really exceptional cuisine - first class fine dining with Simon, charming proprietor and highly qualified master-chef, in an African game lodge ambiance – definitely our favourite.
· Breakfasts, pizzas and Sunday lunches are super-special at Blue Water Café, Imhoff Farm, Kommetjie Road where you can enjoy a cosy farmhouse vibe or, outside, look across rolling meadows to the sea, as you eat.
· The traditional spit n’ sawdust vibe at the local Fisherman’s, opposite the Superette, belies its delicious fresh seafood at very reasonable prices. Choose to eat outside or in – often to live music.
· Village Bakery & Bistro, on the right down Kirsten Avenue, off Kommetjie Road, is a super restaurant for the whole family, with a wide menu, be it fish, meat, pasta or vegetarian – good food and fast service.
· Latest addition to Kommetjie's eateries is The Green Room, under-stated and under-rated, but great value burgers, sarmies and Mexican food. Turn right at Fisherman’s as you come into Kommetjie.

10.Check off the endemics:
If you’re a birder you’ll love Glen Cottage. On the beach you’ll see the endangered African Black Oystercatcher, Cape, Crowned and White Breasted Cormorant, Sacred, Hadeda and Glossy Ibis, Pied Kingfisher, Little Egret, Grey Heron, Whitefronted, Crowned and Blacksmith Plover, Kelp and Hartlaub’s Gull, Common, Caspian and Artic Tern, African Yellow-billed Duck, Black Winged Stilt, Cape Wagtail and, if you’re lucky, Spoonbill Stork. Elsewhere locally you’ll see Pied Crow, White Necked Raven, Spotted Prinea, Cape Francolin, Black Shouldered Kite, Crested Guineafowl, Rock Pigeon, Cape Turtle Dove, Red Eyed Dove, Malachite and Lesser Double Collared Sunbird, Fiscal Shrike, Southern Boubou, Fairy Flycatcher, and Cape Canary.
Around the cottage you’ll see Cape White-eye, Cape Robin, Cape Bulbul, Redwinged Starling, European Starling, Cape Weaver and hear the distinctive cry of the African Fish Eagle.

What to do everywhere else:
There’s a stack of stuff to do around Cape Town and the Peninsula, and it’s almost always accompanied by the most staggering views and vistas.

Take a drive to Cape Point!

On the road to Cape Point, don't miss -
· Cape Point Ostrich Farm - Take a guided tour of the ostrich pens and check out the ostrich eggs and leather products on offer.
· Redhill Curio Market - an amazing collection of African artifacts in stone, soapstone and wood at the side of the road.
· And if you get to feeling peckish, enjoy a really scrumptious lunch right there at the Cape Farmhouse Restaurant

Browse Kalk Bay and Simon’s Town:
Spend an afternoon browsing the junk shops of Kalk Bay and Simon’s Town for antiques and collectables.
· There’s quirky style and glamour at Kalk Bay’s Cape To Cairo and Cuban food in a vibrantly bohemian atmosphere at Cape To Cuba restaurant where, they say, everything is for sale!
· Whale watch from August to December. Great places to watch are on top of Elsies Peak or from the Polana, on the rocks in Kalk Bay Harbour.
· And while you’re at Kalk Bay, try rough n’ ready Kalkies for tasty fish n’ chips in newspaper or, for more exotic fish dishes, try Live Bait.

Play a round of golf:
If golf is your passion, there are several great golf courses in the Cape Peninsula to indulge it.
· Play a delightfully picturesque eighteen holes at Clovelly Country Club, where the views will have you spellbound, or
· Try Steenberg Golf Course before dining in style at Catharina's the Restaurant.
· Then there’s the Cape’s most popular course, Westlake Golf Club, and finally, the classic duo -
· The old established, easy playing and ever popular Mowbray Golf Club and
· Course of golfing champions, Royal Cape Golf Club, in Plumstead, founded in 1885.

Explore wine routes galore:
There are so many wine routes these days one is spoilt for choice. Here are some that are relatively close at hand –
· Spend a day in the Cape Winelands - the Stellenbosch and Franshoek wine routes - and enjoy the heritage of Simon Van Der Stel.
· Enjoy excellent wine closer to home and do the Constantia Wine Route, comprising Uitsig, Steenberg, Buitenverwachting and Groot and Klein Constantia.
· Try the Paarl Wine Route, the West Coast Wine Route or the Durbanville Wine Route, to name but a few.

Get a Table Mountain-eye view of Cape Town:
Probably South Africa’s greatest icon (apart from Madiba), Table Mountain towers more than one kilometre above Cape Town. Take the revolving cable car and enjoy spectacular views of the city, the Cape Peninsula and the ocean from 11 viewpoints on the summit. Take a picnic to Kirstenbosch!
Spending an afternoon enjoying the tranquil beauty of Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens is a must – it’s the top botanical garden of the world. Established in 1913, it’s home to more than 8 500 species of indigenous South African plants.
There are fynbos hiking trails, guided tours and twilight nature walks, and it’s a birders’ delight. Pack a picnic basket and eat on the lawns or enjoy a meal at the Silvertree Restaurant and Fynbos Deli.

Enjoy nature at the World of Birds:
The World of Birds in Hout Bay is the largest bird park in Africa and one of the few large bird parks in the World. Over 3 000 birds and small animals of 400 different species are uniquely presented in more than 100 spacious landscaped walk-through aviaries - you’ll never get closer to nature! And get there via Chapman’s Peak Drive - it’s one of the scenic wonders of the world!

· Plenty of factory shops locally, too, the best being Meltz Factory Shop, Diep River. And there are many more at Access Park, Kenilworth.
