Camping:
For the more adventurous ....... an outdoor campsite.
An exiting bush camp has been added to what we offer on the 21st of March
2002. This on-the-skin experience of the Kalahari offers nature lovers:
o to sleep around a campfire
o 8 luxury beds in four half-open huts

well equipped kitchen

We do take bookings for any number of people and give the camp to only
one group at a time.
Gemsbok Camp:
The latest addition to the facilities at Soetvlakte is Gemsbok camp. A
facility aimed at the tourist who prefers to camp with a caravan, tent
or just sleep under the open sky, next to a fire. This is a Kalahari experience
with the luxury of warm showers and flushes toilets, ala Soetvlakte style,
and right in the veldt.
A kitchen equipped with a fridge, a freezer, a microwave and kitchenware
for 30 people, allow travellers to spend a night or more without unpacking.
We provide firewood and will clean the kitchen once per day. Electricity
is available at the centre point to recharge a fridge or freezer or even
for electric curlers in the bush.
Our target group with this camp is for the camper or people on there way
from or to Kgalagadi NP or Botswana.
The camp is 10 camp spots under the camel thorn trees where one to three
tents or caravans can camp per tree, scattered over an area far enough
that nobody will be to close to each other. The 10 showers and 5 toilets
are placed in easy distance from the campsites.
Feedback from visitors is very positive on the space and the balance of
facilities between luxury and an outdoor experience.
Although this camp was planned for tented or caravan campers in mind,
quite a few parties have opted to sleep around a fire and enjoy the predictable
winter weather of the Kalahari.

History of Soetvlakte Guest Farm:
One day in 1943 my grandfather left the farm in Heidelberg to buy horses
in Beaufort West. He and his friend were supposed to be back after three
days. When he returned after two weeks he told my grandmother that he
had bought a farm in the Kalahari and planned to move there. He bought
the farm Caledonia and they moved to Kuruman in 1944 and started the farming
operation that was taken over by my father, Kobus Hauman, when grandfather
died in 1953. I bought Soetvlakte from my father in 1994 and the Kalahari
is part of our character.
