Welcome to the Cranes Nest, 4-star rated exclusive Lodge situated between the towns of Belfast and Lydenburg in the heart of the Mpumalanga Mountains.

Nestled in the ruins of an ancient culture you will find this intriguing Lodge, fringed by misty mountains and magic forests - fondly referred to as the best kept secret of this magnificent valley called the Kwena Basin.

A natural spring on the top of the mountain is the source of our pure and refreshing drinking water.
The living area is open plan to a fully equipped kitchen, has a large fireplace and there is an outdoor braai on the main veranda.

Guinea Fowl House
This self catering house has 4 bedrooms with 2 double beds and 4 single beds, 2 bathrooms with only showers.
There are french doors in all the bedrooms leading out onto the patios where the vistas are something to behold.

The living area is open plan to a fully equipped kitchen, has a large fireplace and there is an outdoor braai on the main veranda.
8 guests are accommodated here, wood is provided and the house overlooks the Damsel Dam.

Eagle Owl Cottage
Has a private bedroom with a private bedroom with a double bed, 2 single beds in the open plan living area, 2 single sleepers in the loft and the main bathroom has a shower, bath, toilet and a basin.
The unit also has a guest toilet with a wash basin, open plan kitchen leading to the lounge and dining room, an indoor fireplace and wood is available. This unit enjoys mountain views.

Bush Chalets
These are superior, under canvas units with en suite bathroom of showers only and a front veranda offering spectacular views.
These are designed for a couple with romance in mind, but can accommodate a day bed. They are equipped with king size beds, heaters, electric blankets, towels, linen, tea / coffee facilities, a mini fridge and have an outdoor shower.

How To Get To Cranes Nest Mountain Lodge

From Johannesburg / Pretoria
Take the N4 East, continue past Bronkhorstspruit, Middelburg, Belfast and Machadodorp.
Recommended for high clearance vehicles
Continue past Machadodorp to the toll gate, go through the toll gate and continue for 3km. Turn left onto the r36 at the Lydenburg sign and continue for approximately 4km then turn left at Goedewil sign (gravel road).
Pass the Machado stud sign on your left - do not turn off here rather continue for 16km passing the Bambi Paragliding Club on the right.
Come down Wilgekraal pass and you will reach Cranes Nest Guest Farm on your left then follow the signs to reception.
Alternative Route – recommended for low slung sedan cars
As per above pass by the Goedewil turn-off on your left and proceed to the next r36 Lydenburg sign and turn left here (opposite the old bambi hotel).
Follow this winding road until you get to the Goedehoop turn-off, which is opposite to the Kwena Dam turn-off, turn left to goedehoop and travel along 2kms of dirt road to a t-junction where you will see an old trading store.
There will be a Cranes Nest sign here, turn left towards Blaauboschkraal and carry on straight for 6kms (do not turn off at Donkerhoek).
Pass the “Belfast District Roads” sign on your left, cross the stream and you will see Cranes Nest entrance and follow the signs to the reception.
