Misty Valley Lodge Accommodation

These comfortable and convenient units are fully furnished and have both a double bed and a sleeper couch. Each of the three units have a fully equipped kitchenette and a fireplace to keep you warm, or add a bit of romance to those chilly nights.

LAKESIDE CHALETS:
These three rock clad double storey chalets are perfect for families or groups of friends. The units are totally self-sufficient with fully equipped kitchens and a wonderful barbeque area overlooking the shimmering water and beautiful mountains beyond. The chalet has a spacious lounge with fireplace. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 with double beds and one with 4 single beds. The main bedroom upstairs leads onto a balcony, where a peaceful nights rest will be woken with magnificent views.

LAKESIDE LOG CABINS:
Our unique log cabins overlook one of our shimmering trout dams, with spectacular views of the distant mountains of Swaziland. These units can be split up into self-catering and family units, and are perfect for conference delegates. Some of the units have a covered barbeque area in front of the cabin. See summary below for a breakdown of these units.

Lodge Facilities And Service

Fire Place & Braai: A complimentary bundle of wood, coal and firelighters are supplied. Once these have been used up, guests can purchase a refill from reception.
Laundry: You can confidently entrust your laundry chores to our well trained laundry staff.
Swimming towels: These are available at reception.

Knight & Boar Restaurant:
Enjoy the warmth from the open hearth on those cold, misty days or on a cold winter night... creating a romantic ambiance for that special occasion, where a crackling fire dances softly to background music.

The Knight and Boar Restaurant greets the day with a hearty breakfast of fruit, cereals, sizzling bacon, fresh eggs, sausages and home baked breads. Lunch is a tasty pub fare where our chef’s special touch is evident. Dinner is a choice of either a two or three course meal, complimented by a selection of the Cape’s finest wine. Only the freshest ingredients are used and we are knowledged in Halaal and Vegetarian meals.

Sharing Special Moments:
Whether you wish to share special moments with loved ones or friends, Misty Valley Lodge will ensure that it is more than memorable. Your personal chef will prepare a culinary feast while you select the finest wine from our well stocked cellar. A table setting fit for a king and romantic music will create the perfect ambiance while immaculate service is provided. Choose one of several venues and settings which are available on request.

The “Mad Dog in the Fog” Pub:
The “Mad Dog in the Fog” pub will ensure that you experience many moments reminiscing about that “big one” that got away. The fireplace will warm you on those cold winter nights along with the homely atmosphere that makes for a very cosy and convivial setting.

Boma:
Friends and families can enjoy a fantastic evening under African skies in our open boma with fires crackling in the background. The boma with braaing facilities can be organised by prior arrangement.

Childrens Facilities:
Misty Valley Lodge caters for the whole family. Our children’s play area is our pride and joy. Trampolines, jungle gyms, swings, treasure hunts, cookie bakes and a whole lot more will keep your precious bundles entertained. Prior arrangements will ensure a well-trained and competent babysitter to look after your kids.

Trading Store:
For those guests enjoying a self-catering getaway we have a small trading store offering the basics you may have left behind or may have run out of. We stock a range of sweets and drinks, some curios and a variety of fly fishing equipment.

High Altitude Training:
Misty Valley Lodge is the ideal venue for any athlete interested in high altitude training located over 2000m above sea level. High altitude training is a widely accepted and used method in elite sports. The result is a dramatic improvement in blood oxygen carrying capacity - to help you work harder and longer and to train more efficiently. Generally, sport scientist place the increase in performance gained from altitude training in the 3-5% range. At Misty Valley Lodge, athletes have different surfaces that can be utilised for training:
Dam: The Vygeboom dam in the vicinity is 3.8km long and ideal for rowing.

Fly fishing at Misty Valley Lodge:
In Fly fishing ... catching “the big one” isn’t guaranteed, and sometimes the unlikeliest angler gets the best catch. As in so many other things, the payoff lies in enjoying oneself, refining skills, learning from the experience, and sharing it with others. When everything works together, catching is an absolute thrill. Carefully releasing the catch maximizes the benefits of this magnificent sport.

For the serious fly fisher, Misty Valley Lodge offers a range of dams, well stocked with trophy trout. We even cater for the eager young fly fisher with smaller stocked dams - perfect bonding time for dad and his young trainee.
A 6km stretch of virgin Komati River a short distance away from the estate ensures yellowfish catch.

Should you bring your own fly fishing equipment and are keen to catch some fish, we charge a rod and bag fee per angler per weekend (Friday to Sunday). Mid-week visitors (Mondays to Thursdays), pay a reduced rod fee. Should you need to hire some equipment, we have rod, reels and nets available for hire, alternatively you can purchase equipment from our trading store.

Stillwater Trouphy Trout:
• Two stillwaters, approximately 3 ha, stocked bi-annually with rainbow and golden trout (500g - 4.5kg).
• Guided trout fishing along 15km of the Gladdespruit River.
• Guided fishing along 3km of the Komati River for yellowfish.

Fly Fishing Clinics:
Misty Valley Lodge hosts a number of fly fishing clinics throughout the year. We often have well known fly fishermen sharing there experiences and giving out some of their useful hints and tips. These weekends are not to be missed!

Kids weekend activities program:
The perfect weekend retreat for the whole family. The kids will have a ball as we keep them busy with activities throughout the day. Mom and dad can join anytime or relax on the balcony and read that book that you never seem to get around to reading, go fishing or just spend some quality time together.

We have designed the programme so that when you experience our Lodge the whole family can enjoy the weekend. So many places are great but can be boring for kids who have so much energy and there idea of a weekend away is doing as much as possible to have fun and be active. Mom and dad though might just feel like relaxing from a hectic week at home and work.

The programme consists of a number of activities than run over the course of the weekend. Special times are set for each activity and the programme is handed to you upon arrival.

Each activity has adult supervision with a caring, friendly and fun attitude. The program runs at no extra cost to you. Some of the activities we offer are treasure hunt, arts & crafts, tractor rides, fishing, hiking, wall climbing, boere sports, cook and bake class, target shooting, jumping castle, face painting, slippery slide and etc. Obviously outdoor activities are weather permitting but we will make a plan for indoor activities too.

Misty Valley Lodge is located a few kilometers above Waterval Boven, on one of the highest lying farms in Mpumalanga and is part of the Highland Meander.
Follow the N4 from Witbank towards Belfast, turn right at Machadodorp.
Take the Badplaas road (R541).
After 13km turn left on the Slaaihoek road, continue for a further 12km and turn right at Misty Valley Lodge.
