Bar facilities are available to quench your thirst.

Facilities
Our boma area is the heart of African Game Lodges night time experience. There is no greater African moment to remember than crowding around a huge crackling fire and listening to the murmurs of the wildlife under the midnight star-soaked sky. If you are in one of the self-catering chalets, you are welcome to bring along your food and braai with us - a real South African tradition of "bring and braai".

The lounge is equipped with a TV with DSTV. Our bar is stocked with a selection of local wines of which you are welcome to purchase should any of them appeal.

Cheater Conservation Awarness Program
At African Game Lodge, we have 6 resident cheetahs. Guests may join a morning or afternoon tour to visit the cheetahs and learn about our conservation project and what is being done to ensure that Cheetahs still roam our plains in South Africa. Learn about the fascinating adaptations of the Cheetah physiology which makes him the fastest animal on earth, and experience for yourself, the charismatic nature of the cheetah. At African Game Lodge, you will learn about the different meta-populations of Cheetahs in South Africa.

The tour starts with a visit to an adult pair of cheetahs, Khulu (Great) and Thanda (Beloved), who are being prepared for transfer to a section of the game reserve. These cheetahs are ambassadors for the free-roaming cheetahs still left in South Africa, of which there are only approximately 1000 left. Learn about the fascinating co-ordinated work being done by Game Reserves all over South Africa to maintain a healthy meta-population of self-sufficient cheetahs. These are truly the only wild cheetahs left now in South Africa.

Then you will have the privilege to meet our captive bred cheetahs Duma (Thunder), Vukela (Wild), Thula (Quiet) and Shaka (named after the great Zulu Warrior) who live in large, spacious, enclosures. Here you will learn more about the specialised hunting techniques of the cheetah, interesting facts and information, and the opportunity to photograph these magnificent cats in close proximity. Please note that a No Touch policy is enforced during this program, however, you may take as many photographs as you like.

Unfortunately for safety reasons, guests need to be 14 years and older, or taller than 1.5meters to partake in the Cheetah Awareness Program.

Day Visitors are most welcome to join us on one of the Cheetah Programs. The programs for Day visitors that are available include the following:

Nature Drives
Our Nature Drives are somewhat different to the usual Big Five Game Drive. At African Game Lodge, we're also interested in the little furry creatures, the signs of the wild and the interesting vegetation, geology and flora in the area.

So come prepared to get out the vehicle and take a walk along the river bed, or stop on the side of the track to photograph the spoor of a leopard that passed through the reserve in the night. Game that you might see on the Nature Drive include Eland, Springbok, Klipspringer, Gemsbok and duiker.

There are always a large selection of birds who frequent the reserve, much to the delight of the bird spotters who can help us add to our Bird List that we are compiling. We will also see evidence of land disturbance and how nature goes about restoring the balance. Our Nature Drives are relaxed, educational, and allow you to see nature as it was meant to be.
