ZuluWaters Game Reserve Accommodation
There are three accommodation experiences at ZuluWaters Game Reserve, each of which has its own unique character – Shaka Lodge, Nandi House and the Lake Cottage.
The River Camp is the ideal day time retreat for a peaceful day’s
fishing or a respite from a hard trail in the saddle.
Visitors to Shaka Lodge, Nandi House and the Lake Cottage are provided with a private chef. Many of the ingredients used for the meals are drawn from the Reserve itself, from venison to organic vegetables. Check the Food page for more information. Nandi House and the Lake Cottage are also available as a self-catering option.
Whichever of the three venues you stay in, a unique African experience awaits – in one of the most beautiful settings that the country has to offer.
Shaka Lodge
Characterised by a calm, contemporary, indigenous design aesthetic Shaka
Lodge provides a retreat from the elements. Three suites provide accommodation
for couples to enjoy privacy and relaxation. A fully equipped kitchen,
your own personal chef and discreet staff are on hand for every need.
Our wine cellar provides a comprehensive selection of South African and
world-class wines. Accommodation for personal staff is available with
in walking distance from the main house.
Shaka Lodge accommodates three couples in double rooms.
Nandi House
Named after Shaka Zulu's mother, Nandi House is built on an old reservoir
dating back to the early 1900's. The house was designed by Richard Stretton
of Koop Design in Durban in 2005 and formed part of the SAIA-Afrisam Award
for Sustainable Architecture which was won by ZuluWaters in 2010.
Nandi House overlooks sweeping plains and hills and guests can sit and watch the game grazing from the double volume veranda. Rhino have been known to rub their horns on the supporting wooden pillars and guests can see the marks of their horns on the wood.
With 2 double bedrooms, Nandi House can be used as a separate self-catering unit or as an add-on to the main house, Shaka Lodge.
Lake Cottage
Lake Cottage, tucked away in the heart of ZuluWaters Game Reserve, provides
privacy and time to appreciate the natural beauty of the reserve. Wake
up to Rhinos standing solemnly in the long grass and bird song on the
breeze.
Fish nearby Lake Murray for the fierce indigenous Yellow Fish and rainbow trout or fly-fish the Bushmans River for brown trout . The perfect romantic hide-away for two.
Food
Fresh seasonal produce, organically grown in the kitchen gardens, and venison from the veldt form the basis of a cuisine that is authentically ZuluWaters. The ZuluWaters chef ensures that guest's needs are well served from fresh light lunches to intimate dinners and everything in between.
With first hand knowledge of the seasonal produce available and access to the freshest ingredients from the kitchen garden, the ZuluWaters chef guarantees a satisfied palette. The finest South African wines from our cellar accompany the cuisine and round off your personal ZuluWaters food experience.
Activities
ZuluWaters is not so much a place as an experience. There are moments – even days – of contemplation to be had at ZuluWaters. But this is also a place of adventure, however you may find it - in the cold eddies of a trout stream, in the saddle of a sure-footed Appaloosa or at the sport of clay pigeon shooting.
For the contemplative spirits there is hot air ballooning or a slow guided walk to view the original rock art of the ancient San people in the nearby caves. Enjoy a game of tennis on your own private piece of Africa.
