DÉCOR
There’s no mistaking that you’re in Africa, home to a vast array of wildlife. For travellers who wish to maintain their daily exercise regime, the Upton Hall Fitness Centre is a treat for guests only.
With world-class equipment, a steam room, changing rooms and showers, there’s really no excuse for slacking off. A private trainer is available upon request.

Lounge

The covered terrace harks back to Durban’s history of verandah-style colonial indulgence, where one’s every whim is attended to.
It’s the perfect place to while away the day, engrossed in a good book, while enjoying Durban’s balmy, sub-tropical climate.
Come afternoon, it’ll be time for cocktails and canapés, as you watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean and the iconic arch of the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Swimming Pool
Upton Hall’s pool and outdoor deck is ideally situated to lap up year-round sunshine, with Indian Ocean views. Guests can embrace Durban’s beach culture at a discreet distance, while taking a dip in Upton Hall’s temperature-controlled pool.

Weather permitting, which is the rule rather than the exception, meals can be taken on the open terrace adjacent to the pool and ponds.

Boardroom
Muted tones, wood panelling and a portrait of Madiba overlooking proceedings impart an air of dignity to Upton Hall’s 14 seater boardroom.

Restaurant
Chef Nardia runs a dynamic kitchen, based on the philosophy that “food, like fashion, is ever-changing”. Creativity is the driving force. Her personal taste is contemporary, fresh and funky, without slavishly following trends. Despite her traditional training, she mixes old with new, east with west - and enjoys playing around with flavours and cooking techniques.

It keeps the selection interesting for Upton Hall guests, and ensures the creative juices are flowing in the kitchen. Her menus incorporate some tasty vegetarian dishes, a ready supply of oysters (and premium French bubbly), and prime fillet done the “Chic Shack” way, with exotic mushrooms, pap and thyme chips.

Newspaper Room
A newspaper lounge has been created out of Upton Hall’s extensive upstairs landing area. Decorated in shades of black, white and grey, it’s a distinguished-looking nook, where one can catch up on all the local and international news, from a range of newspaper titles available daily or weekly.
