Self catering cottage:
This charming, fully equipped Karoo cottage is situated at one of the best spots in Nieu Bethesda overlooking spacious unrestricted mountain views, forest views and garden view.

A perfect base to rest a while in our beautiful valley, just 2 minutes walk to the famous Owl House and the centre of the village with all his attractions.

The cottage is fully equipped and tastefully furnished with South African antiques. In the kitchen you find a fridge with freezer compartment, 2 plate stove, bread and toasty-roaster, microwave, coffee and tea facilities and all the needs to make breakfast, lunch or a small meal. All you need for a comfortable holiday or short stay.

On request we can also serve your breakfast (Full English Breakfast.) Only from 15 October till 15 May.
In the cottage you find 1 king-size bed (on request we can make 2 single beds) with electric blankets for in the winter and 2 wall heaters and 1 fan for in the summer.
The cottage has a large private veranda with braai facilities, beautiful unrestricted mountain views, garden and forest views. Enjoy a beautiful sundowner on the verandah in the South African summer.

Double room en-suite:
Facilities comprises in the main house just near the cottage one luxurious spacious double room en-suite with coffee and tea facilities. In the room is also a little fridge.
The room has a private entrance and a private verandah with beautiful mountain views and open spaces. Tastefully furnished with South African antiques. On request we will serve you a delicious Full English Breakfast.

Activities such as horse riding, mountain biking, birding, hiking and walking and excursions to Busman paintings.

-The Owl House Arno
- Frans Boekkooi’s Sculpture Studio and Heidi’s Gallery next to the Brewery. Meet this acclaimed artist and see work by other Eastern Cape artists in the adjoining gallery.
-The Brewery & Two-Goats Deli – visit André Cilliers’ Micro Brewery and meet the goats that provide the cheese for the deli!
- The Post Office, this eccentric little eatery also offers everything from home grown herbs to hand knitted blankets. You can also stock up on freshly baked bread, delightful jams, chutneys and pickles (or mail a postcard!)
-The Nok Nok Design Studio is an eclectic shop and gallery and is situated across the Village Inn – well worth a visit.
- Nieu Bethesda Arts Centre for art and crafts created by locals. Art, music, dance, theatre... visit the gallery, see a class in progress or take part in a workshop.
- Go for a guided Donkey Cart Ride with Jacob – you´ll find him under the pepper tree in front of the Owl House.
- James Kitching Fossil Exploration Centre for fossils and replicas of creatures nearly 200 million years older than the dinosaurs found in this area.
-The Cemetery ~ with graves dating back hundreds of years, many of them unmarked save for their beautiful local stone, this is a peaceful and pretty place to spend a quiet time.
-Ganora Excursions ~ Guided tours are offered to San and Khoi shelters on the farm where rock art dating back to 10 000 years ago can be viewed as well as a collection of Bushman artifacts and fossils in a private museum.

Where to eat in Nieu Bethesda:
- Nina´s is a must for lunch or dinner. Situated in the Post Office, the menu this eccentric little eatery changes daily ~ but you can expect real comfort food, varying from an authentic Dutch pea soup to lamb bredie, burgers and milktart.
- The Brewery and Two Goats Deli ~ enjoy a cheese, salad and kudu salami lunch platter under the trees while enjoying André’s Karoo ale.
- The Tower Café adjacent to the Arts Centre offers lunch and dinner and is situated in a quant tower.
Belinda’s Pancake Place. Pancakes, sarmies and salads.
- The Village Inn restaurant and coffee shop ~ the oldest eating place in the village is known for great breakfasts and also serve lunch and dinner.
- Aunty Evelyne´s Restaurant on the Hill. Authentic home cooking in Pienaarsig.

And please remember, in keeping with its distinctive pace of life, the village has no bank, credit card facilities, supermarkets or petrol station

History:
Nieu-Bethesda is a charming village, nestling in a scenic valley in the foothills of the “Sneeuberg”. Here you can see the watermill erected in 1860 and the 1905 Dutch Reformed church with its finely carved wooden pews.
The Owl house, with its hundreds of cement and glass camels, owls, naked man and women, lambs, sphinxes—all work of “Miss Helen” Martins. The Owl House was the setting for playwright Athol Fugard’s “The road to Mecca”. Visitors from all over the world are attracted to Helen Martin’s work.
This off-the-beaten track village has become an increasingly popular spot for visitors over the past years. Also a popular residence for many artists who has settle here over the past few years. In the village you can find various alternative healing therapies, a variety of Restaurants, coffee shops, a Pub and Art Galleries.
