Set in the scenic Waterberg Mountains lies the small Bushveld town of Modimolle (previously named Nylstroom). Here, in the heart of the Bushveld on a 32-hectare farm, are Birdsong Cottages, a series of self-catering cottages 14 kilometres outside the town on the R101. Birdsong is an easy 90-minute drive from Pretoria and 2-½
hour drive from Johannesburg. As soon as guests turn off the R101,
they start to unwind. The farm also features a country pool, two
farm dams and surrounding gardens. |

Accommodation at Birdsong Cottages Modimolle
Flycatcher Villa:
Fly Catcher is a luxury six-sleeper thatched villa with three upmarket private bedrooms – each with their own en-suite bathroom and private entrance. The villa, located at the upper level, boasts its own outside patio with a scenic view of the farm dams and surrounding bush.
The well-equipped kitchen features fridge / freezer, four-plate electric stove, microwave, a range of cutlery and crockery as well as a kettle and toaster. A group of three couples would enjoy staying in this unit that offers every comfort away from home. Guests can also book the rooms separately.
Sunbird:
Sunbird sleeps four people in two bedrooms (both have double beds). The spacious shared bathroom has a bath, shower, toilet and basin. An added bonus is a unique shower with a rustic stonewall and large glass door. In the compact kitchenette, guests will find all the usual amenities they need to enjoy to prepare their own meals, such as fridge/freezer, two-plate stove and microwave.
Owls Cottages:
The two Owls Cottages combined is a rustic six-sleeper log cabin with private swimming pool and shared barbeque area. Guests can therefore also book this unit as a two or four sleeper.
About Owls Cottage A:
Unit A is a charming wooden cabin constructed on one level and situated
next to an orange orchard. This cosy unit features an appealing outside
wooden deck in front with a seating area to the far left and is perfect
for two couples. The two bedrooms, each with double beds, lead off from
the main living space. There is a shared bathroom with bath only.
About Owls Cottage B:
This delightful ‘three-level’ unit is surrounded by greenery.
The lounge area features comfortable couches and wooden chairs, coffee
table and a flat screen TV with select DStv channels. Another flight of
stairs leads up to the bedroom on the third level, with its private balcony
overlooking the trees.
Kingfisher:
Kingfisher offers standard accommodation in its four bedrooms. To the left are two bedrooms; the main one has a comfortable king-sized bed, while the other has two twin beds. These bedrooms have access to a shared private bathroom with bath, basin and toilet. Opposite are two bedrooms with king-size beds, percale linen and their own private en suite bathrooms with shower, toilet and basin.
The small, but well-equipped kitchenette features a four-plate gas stove with oven, fridge/freezer combination and microwave oven. In addition, it offers other self-catering amenities including a kettle, toaster as well as crockery and cutlery.
