Verandahs and a garden provide views of Table Mountain and the city, while the upstairs bedrooms look out at the dramatic sweep of Table Bay.
There is a sparkling pool in a tranquil setting. A special attraction is the smell of the herb garden and the garden's romantic hideaways.

The sitting room and dining room have been lovingly preserved, with glowing wooden floors and exclusive, traditional furnishings.
On cooler days you may enjoy the fire: The best moment for an excellent cape wine. The wine cellar offers a growing selection of wines from the Stellenbosch, Paarl and Wellington areas. In the morning indulge in opulent outside breakfasts, guests say it is "the 2nd best in town".

At Acorn House we are mad about wines. Leaving Hamburg we also had to leave an interesting wine cellar with about 300 reds from the cape and a couple of interesting Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs.
But this is long back. We agreed to build our new cellar on the far end of the garage, as this probably would be the coolest place around.

It is not fashionable at all, but it does its job and holds a couple of hundred bottles now. Interested visitors are invited to share a bottle of excellent wine with us. For the beginners, we have selected an affordable range of really good "house wines"

The location in Oranjezicht, a wonderful suburb of Cape Town, right on the foot of Table Mountain, is exceptionally convenient. Near to many restaurants and a trendy Deli Restaurant just opposite. The city centre is a few minutes away, with the harbour`s Waterfront complex and the blue-gold beaches of the Atlantic seaboard not much further.

History:
Acorn House was designed in 1904 by the renowned architect Herbert Baker for the editor of the Cape Times newspaper, Sir Maitland Hall Park.
Architecturally, the house is typical of the period and of the admired Colonial style. With typical Baker hallmarks of timber colonnaded verandah and decorative plaster gables, it has a grade one conservation rating from the National Monuments Council.
