This beautiful Lodge and ostrich farm is situated in Schoemanspoort
and is totally surrounded by mountains.
The willow trees and river give a peaceful atmosphere and is food
for the soul. If you like nature, De Oude Meul is the place to be!
De Oude Meul Country Accommodation
We have 40 air-conditioned rooms. The rooms are
comfortably furnished with a fan, clock-radio, coffee and tea facilities
and a bathroom with a shower.
Every room is equipped with twin beds, but we have queen-size beds
on request.
Each room has a verandah with a table and chairs where guests can
relax and enjoy nature and the animals.
People are not allowed to smoke in the rooms, only outside on the
verandah.

We have four family rooms, consisting of two rooms
with a bathroom. We have one luxury room with a queen size bed and DSTV.
The other unit with DSTV is a flat with a kitchen and a living room for
people who want to stay for longer periods. There is also a couch for
children to sleep on.
De Oude Meul Country Lodge Activities
The Little Karoo is a plant paradise. Here you will find the biggest
variety of plants in the world and Boy or his son, Christo, will show
you some of it. To visit this area and not doing a tour of these very
special plants, is like to eat your main course without desert!

The a la carté restaurant specialises in venison & ostrich

4x4 Trips up the mountain:
Have you ever been in a 4x4 climbing a mountain? Do not miss out such
an adventure, you will be surprise to see what these vehicles can do.
On these trips you will see elephant foot plants more than a thousand
years old, aloes more than 200 years old and numerous other succulents
and plants used by previous generations and bushman as medicine.
Hiking:
Two wonderful routes to view succulents. Two hours are needed for this
walk up the mountain, which is not so easy.
Come and see the elephant foot, rhino bush, kraal bush, cracker bush,
pig ear plants, mountain ferns, ox tongue aloe, speck bush, butter tree
etc. Most of these plants grow in dry ground, as hard as cement. Such
a big variety of plants together is worth a visit.
Restaurant:
The restaurant tenders for light meals to bus groups over lunch time.
For these people a farm stop is also a very special experience and they
give the guide a hard time to get them together and going again!
Some of the best local wines are sold here.

We can accommodate up to 300 people for a wedding or conference. The venue
consists of a bar and a pool.

Wild game wanders around on the premises and can be touched
or fed from the deck. Seun, the Kudu, will come and look for some attention
and bread, and Big Boy the Eland is very jealous.
The restaurant tenders for meals for private guests and tour groups over
lunch and dinner. Buffet or a la carte. For these people a farm stop is

CROCODILE & WILDLIFE RANCH:
The Cango Wildlife Ranch is perfect for a family outing. Guided tours
are given daily around the premises. Learn more about the facts and fiction
of the crocodiles, view elegant cheetahs and giggle at the antics of the
Bengal tiger cubs.
For the adventurous they offer face to face encounters with wildlife in
the Natural Encounters programe where you can touch a cheetah, enjoy the
closeness of a tiger cub, wrap yourself in a python and even dive with
Nile crocodiles.
You can also stroke a Cheetah:

CANGO CAVES:
The Cango Caves is only one of the natural wonders of the Klein Karoo
& Oudtshoorn. A underground jewel in the heart of the Swartberg Mountain
Range.
Experience true beauty as you explore the Cango Caves - crawl through
narrow spaces and slide into a next chamber.
OSTRICH SHOW FARMS:
Visit one of our three well known ostrich show farms the area. They offer
you a complete ostrich package example:
• Stroking and riding an ostrich
• Eating ostrich eggs
• Eating ostrich meat
• Buying souvenirs from the curio shops
SWARTBERG MOUNTAIN RANGE:
This part is acknowledged as a World Heritage Site by the Cape Nature
Conservation. The crest route will take you along the Swartberg Mountain
Range for some 50km.
At last 4x4ers can go to Hell! Not fire and brimstone, but Die Hel, also
known as Gamkaskloof, deep in the Swartberg mountains.
LE ROUX TOWNHOUSE:
The house was built in 1909, when Oudtshoorn was in the midst of the second
Ostrich Feather Boom (1900 -1914). Money being no object, the brief for
this Townhouse was that it be designed by one of Oudtshoorn's best-known
architects, with the most modern innovations, and built with the best
of imported and local materials.
SWARTBERG ADVENTURES:
You will be amazed to know how much more exiting your trip to the Rus
& Vrede Waterfall and The Hell(Gamkaskloof) will be, when travelling
by quad bike. This is relaxed driving, suitable for all ages.
The trip to Rus & Vrede is a one day drip and Gamkaskloof is a overnight
trip.

C.P. NEL MUSEUM:
In 1972 the CP Nel collection was brought to its present home - the former
Oudtshoorn Boys' High School. As a result of this, the sandstone building,
with its beautiful clock tower, was saved from demolition. The building
as a whole dates back to the second "ostrich feather boom" (1900
- 1914) and was declared a National Monument in 1981.
