Oudtshoorn Attractions & Activities:
We are ideally located for travelers exploring the Schoemanshoek Valley,
Oudtshoorn & the surrounding area. We are within walking distance
from the Cango Ostrich Show Farm and Karusa Winery.
The Cango Caves, Wilgewandel Holiday Farm, Cango Wildlife Ranch and Rus
& Vrede Waterfall are within a radius of 15 km from Die Fonteine.
SWARTBERG MOUNTAIN RANGE:
The Swartberg mountains make up a mountain range that runs roughly east-west
along the northern edge of the semi-arid area called the Little Karoo
in the Western Cape province of South Africa. To the north of the range
lies the other large semi-arid area in South Africa, the Great Karoo.
There are several passes through the Swartberg Range, the most famous
of which is possibly the Swartberg Pass that runs between Oudtshoorn in
the south and Prince Albert in the north.
The pass is not tarred and can be a little treacherous after rain, but
offers spectacular views over the Little Karoo and the Great Karoo to
the north.
Much of the Swartberg is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
CANGO CAVES:
29km from Oudtshoorn, at the head of the picturesque Cango Valley, lies
the spectacular underground wonder of the Klein Karoo - the Cango Caves.
Situated in a limestone ridge parallel to the well known Swartberg Mountains,
you will find the finest dripstone caverns, with their vast halls and
towering formations.
CANGO WILDLIFE RANCH:
Visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch and Valley of Ancients, endangered species
breeding facility extraordinaire. The oldest and biggest cheetah contact
centre worldwide offers visitors the rare opportunity of interacting with
our hand reared cheetahs and getting actively involved in saving this
species and others from extinction.
KARUSA VINEYARDS:
Karusa Vineyards is the first and only winery on the Cango Route and situated
only 700 meters from Die Fonteine. Karusa is a specialist producer of
Methode Champenoise and Mediterranean styled wines.
Enjoy a visit and tasting at the winery and also the light lunches served
in a Karoo Tapas style with an ice cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc!
