The booming foghorn in the mist and when the first spring rains fall, the millions of indigenous flowers, which open and densely carpet the earth in bright bursts of colour.
It is home to more than 250 species of birds with seabirds like the Oystercatcher using this coastline as their breeding ground there are a variety of small mammals with an occasional sighting of the strand wolf.

Directions to Manatoka
From Cape Town, travel north from Blouberg on the R27, turn left at the Vredenburg turn-off and travel through Vredenburg to Paternoster.
The entire trip is approximately 140 km.
From Cape Town International Airport, travel towards Cape Town on the N2, take the N7 Malmesbury/Goodwood turn-off Vanguard Drive and turn right towards Malmesbury.
Travel north on the N7 and turn left at the Melkbosstrand turn-off.
Continue to the R27.
Turn right onto the R27 and travel north, past Yzerfontein and Langebaan until you get to the Vredenburg turn-off.
Turn left at the Vredenburg turn-off and travel through Vredenburg to Paternoster.
The entire trip is approximately 155 km.
In Paternoster, when entering Paternoster, turn left at the four-way stop.
Continue with this road past the Hotel and Lodge on the left, past a few fishermen’s houses, past the church and school on the left.
The office is situated next to the school at Blikkie, a green corrugated iron fisherman’s cottage, right next to the school, at 32 St Augustine Road. GPS Co-ordinates: 32° 48' 09.94"S - 17° 53' 09.94"E.
