Attractions / Activities At and Nearby To Biki Bini Bos
Game Drives
The farm is a game farm with various species of antelope and other small
game. Animals are relatively tame so there is plenty of opportunity to
view them in their natural environment. The species we see on a regular
basis are; eland, kudu, blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, waterbuck, gemsbuck,
zebra, impala, common duiker, steenbuck and warthog. Less common sightings
and these are mostly at night time include, black-backed jackal, brown
hyena, caracal (rooikat), porcupine and aardvark.
Hiking Trials
There are two hiking trails on the farm. One route takes in the riverine
bush affording hikers a shaded walk during the heat of the day. The other
hike takes hikers to the remnants of villages of the Bakwena tribe, dating
back to 1700’s. Both hikes will afford you the opportunity to view
game in their natural environment.
In summer hikers must be on the look out for snakes, although good hiking
boots and a hiking staff should offer enough protection. Hikers can by
prior arrangement enjoy a picnic in the veld at a designated rest spot.
Mountain Biking
Follow the twin track farm roads through the bush or take the off-road
specialised bike trail. Farms roads are easy going for entry level riders
and kids. The bike trail will take you through more difficult terrain,
including the 4X4 route. Rest areas are provided along the route and a
catered lunch can be arranged at a picnic site.
Due to the very high rainfall this summer the single tracks are overgrown,
give us some opportunity towards winter to win the battle. The R52 and
N4 tar roads, which are easily accessible from the farm is used by the
Rustenburg cycling clubs for training. Both are in good condition but
obvious care must be taken when using them.
Birding
The farm boast a large variety of birds, we have only started ticking
of the sightings of species and our guests can help to add to the list.
The new day at the lodge is always greeted by the song of various birds.
Some like the Crimson Breasted Shrike are getting very tame and will afford
the “early bird” a great sighting at the lodge.
Photography
Opportunities abound for the avid photographer - birds in the lodge gardens
to game from a hide or vehicle to the intricate details of the beautiful
stone ruins.
Rest and Relaxation
Bring a book to read on your balcony or take up position in a garden hammock.
We do not provide televisions in every room, this should be an opportunity
to get away from it and enjoy nature.
If you want to check up on the progress of your favourite sports team,
please do join us in the main lodge lounge. Follow the game on the big
screen. You can challenge the kids to a game of chess on the giant chessboard.
Boma
To end a perfect day, relax in the boma while enjoying a traditional braai.
Catered meals can be served, please arrange in advance.
Hunting
We prefer to accommodate hunting during winter. A limited amount of hunting
is done on the farm to prevent overpopulation and subsequent habitat destruction.
We are busy with a field rehabilitation exercise which is very costly
and will take some more time, but initial progress is very positive. We
believe in sustainable utilization. All hunting is done on foot as ethically
as possible. The price list and regulations are available on request.
How To Get To Biki Bini Bos
From Pretoria (northern and eastern parts of Johannesburg)
Traveling from Pretoria, take the N1 highway north, just after the Zambezi
exit you will get the N4 toll road exit. Follow the N4 towards Rustenburg
(about R35 in toll fees), continue through Rustenburg, you will pass the
turn-off for the Bafokeng stadium continue up a hill (Magalies mountains).
On the decent keep to the left and take the Koster R52 (tar road) exit.
Follow this road for exactly 10.3km, you will cross a river, the Selons
river, turn RIGHT at the first farm gate.
Follow the dirt road for 600m turn left before the gate, follow the road
in between 2 game fenced farms. This road will make a turn to the right,
follow for another 80m up to the farm gate.
Pass through the gate (please close again) and follow the dirt road until
you get a sign for the house to turn left. Follow the road up to the dam
wall, cross over and turn left towards the lodge.
From Johannesburg (western, central and southern Johannesburg)
Take the R24 towards Rustenburg, I suggest taking the road past Hekpoort/Bekker
schools not through Magaliesburg. As you enter Rustenburg you will drive
past a KFC on the left, approaching an intersection with a BP and Roadlodge
on the left.
Turn right onto the N4 highway towards Zeerust, you will pass the turn-off
for the Bafokeng stadium continue up a hill (Magalies mountains). On the
