No 7 On The Island in Sedgefield offers attractive safe self-catering accommodation for two in the prime location of Swartvlei Estuary on the Garden Route.
Easily accessed from the N2, the rustic face-brick cottage is set in a pretty, fully fenced garden of its own, complete with separate entry and off-street parking for a medium to small vehicle.

Sedgefield is famous for its open air markets: the prize-winning Wild Oats Farmers Market and nearby Scarab Craft Market are peopled every Saturday with locals and visitors who enjoy the social buzz of open air shopping and being part of a close-knit community of artists and crafters.

The fully equipped cottage has twin beds, en-suite bathroom with shower, comfortable lounge with TV and a kitchenette that opens to a large entertainment patio and braai area.
The estuary is two minutes walk away via private access. The area is quiet: birds and tortoises live in the garden. Books and magazines are available for guests for those lazy days.
Breakfast can be served on request.

No 7 On The Island has two canoes and a dinghy / rowboat for guests to use at their own risk. The Island itself is ideal for walking or cycling as it is largely flat. The Village supports a very active cycling fraternity.

Sedgefield is a small holiday town on the Garden Route (known locally as The Village) of approximately 8000 permanent residents sited around the river mouth of Swartvlei estuary.
It has three banks, many small shops, a Spar food store, a Family Grocer franchise, (no shopping mall), several coffee shops, liquor outlets and a variety of restaurants.

It is a town that swells to bursting with visitors over Christmas and the Easter holidays and which accommodates participants in the nearby Knysna Oyster Festival in July.
Located 40 minutes from George, with all its city amenities like shopping malls, industrial areas, cinemas, international airport etc, 15 minutes from Wilderness National Parks’ unique lake system and hiking trails (plus bird hides) and 20 minutes from the well-known tourist destination of Knysna, this little town is the ideal base from which to explore the Garden Route, Oudtshoorn, Cango Caves, the Karoo and beyond. It has a temperate climate, which makes the town a year round tourist destination.

The water skiing zone is downstream near the river mouth or a larger and deeper zone across the N2 in Swartvlei itself. The river mouth and three unspoilt and undeveloped beaches are five minutes away.
The estuary supports a varied ecosystem of sea water fish, seahorses, sand mussels, sand prawns and water birds. It provides residents and guests with safe swimming, exciting fishing, canoeing, windsurfing and glorious sunsets.
Sedgefield is the hidden jewel of the Garden Route and The Island is a registered Cape Nature Conservancy, home to breeding reptile populations and a wide variety of birds.

Birding tours and hiking trips can be arranged and a numerous adventure and leisure activities are available. Art and mosaic courses are available and guests can take lessons with one of South Africa’s top potters, Lesley Ann Hoets. The area is sited in the midst of golf courses of varying challenges, from Mossel Bay to Plettenberg Bay.

There is a sociable Mashie Course at Fynboskruin on the nearby road to Swartvlei beach, three minutes by car and another beside the Goukamma river ten minutes away. Sedgefield town is five minutes away by car or fifteen minutes walk which can be along the river bank most of the way.

Directions to No 7 On The Island accommodation:
From the N2 running through Sedgefield, turn off (right if from George side, left from Knysna side) at the Engen garage and follow the road to the junction of Paul Kruger St and Jan Van Riebeeck St. Take right hand fork into Jan Van Riebeeck and follow the road straight to the four-way stop at Van Niekerk St. Cross over onto the dirt road and take the first road left (tarred) which is Johan St. No 7 On The Island is the third house on the right.
