South Winds Self Catering
Simons Town Cape Town - South Africa
Email South Winds Self Catering Reservations: booksa@madbookings.com
“South Winds” is a self-catering wooden bungalow
situated directly on the rocks of Castle Rock Marine Reserve on
the Cape Peninsula.
This piece of paradise is unencumbered by crowds, traffic or pollution
and is a favourite spot for discerning locals who cherish the wild
magic of the area.
The reserve has one of the most beautiful and unspoilt coastlines
in South Africa. It is a conservation haven for a diverse and colourful
marine ecosystem and a playground for scuba divers and rock pool
enthusiasts.
While the house gives one the impression of being serenely remote
and far from civilisation it is in fact only 5km from the charming
village of Simon’s Town.
The venue is ideal for balancing complete privacy with the convenience
of top restaurants, delis, pubs, museums, interesting shops and
sporting facilities nearby.

South Winds Self Catering Accommodation
The house boasts floor to ceiling views across False Bay towards the
distant Hottentot’s Holland mountains. Situated just above the high
tide mark and overlooking rock pools, you can watch the fish from your
couch.
There are three sunny bedrooms (two double, one twin), bathroom with shower,
an immaculate open-plan kitchen, a large lounge/dining room with a wood-burning
fireplace, viewing deck and 160 degree views of the ocean and surrounding
mountains. The fresh, contemporary décor invites complete relaxation
and stress-free living.
South Winds Self Catering Facilities
South Winds is fully furnished and equipped with everything needed for
an extended stay. There is a TV, DVD player, microwave, fully-equipped
kitchen, as well as linen and towels of good quality.
We are happy to assist with information on airport transfers, car hire,
local tours and outings, and any other information or help that will enhance
your stay. You need only stock up on food and drinks, bring a few good
books and your sense of adventure.
The Cape Peninsula mountain range is directly behind the house so there
are numerous walks through the indigenous fynbos right on your doorstep.
The range is home to the smallest and richest floral kingdom in the world
and a healthy bird life. Small wildlife such as ghecko, tortoise, tiny
buck and baboon live in the valleys bordering the nature reserve.
Coastal walks meander from your front door, left to Simon’s Town
and right to the Cape Point Nature Reserve. The rock pools along the way
are full of life and colour and are a constant source of wonder.
From May to November, the Southern Right Whales come to calve in the warm
waters of False Bay. South Winds panoramic view of the bay is perfect
for whale watching from the lounge or deck. Schools of dolphins are constant
visitors to the bay as are seals.
Simon's Town
Simon’s Town, as home to the South African Navy, boasts a wealth
of historical buildings perched along cobbled streets and alleyways. Stone
steps lead up the side of the mountain to a jumble of Victorian architectural
gems.
The tiny alleyways offer a kaleidoscope of colour and form with bougainvillea
spilling over stone walls and cottages terrace gardens overgrown with
local flora. Museums, galleries, antique shops and restaurants abound.
The local eateries’ speciality is seafood and the daily catch is
hotly bargained for each morning by resident chefs.
Attractions & Activities
Local attractions within a 3km radius include the famous Boulder’s
Beach Penguin Colony, where you can swim with the penguins in a safe and
wave-free environment.
Take a boat trip from Simon’s Town Waterfront to watch the whales,
dolphins and seals frolicking in the bay. Three boat clubs in the area
offer keelboat, speedboat and catamaran facilities.
Golf is also well catered for with three world-class courses nearby. Gym
facilities, squash, horse riding and many other nearby activities are
also available to the visitor.
Other neighbouring villages are a must to visit. Fish Hoek has an excellent
beach for swimming and surfing and is a paradise for children.
The quaint fishing village of Kalk Bay is known for its antique shops,
theatre and restaurants and where you can buy fresh line-fish directly
from the boats, is worth a full day’s excursion. The Constantia
vineyards are only a 20-minute drive while Scarborough and Muizenberg
are 15 minutes in either direction.
The Cape Point Nature Reserve, ostrich farm and wine farm are within a
10km drive. The city of Cape Town, Table Mountain and the vibrant V&A
Waterfront are a 45-minute drive away, which takes you through the beautiful
Silvermine Nature Reserve en route.
Whatever the season, be it for a short break or long stay, a sojourn at
South Winds is certain to relax and inspire you by its location and comfort.
