While staying at Papyrus Lodge, you can cool off in the estate's private, fresh-water lake on a balmy summer's day or alternatively try a spot of fishing, row out onto the water or enjoy a leisurely ride on a pedal boat on the lake.

Visitors to Papyrus Lodge also have the opportunity to experience first-hand the area's amazing array of bird- and plant life. Another option is to simply sit quietly next to the lake and forget all about the daily stresses whilst drinking in the tranquil surroundings.
Guests at Papyrus Lodge who need to be in real-time touch with family, friends and business contacts can also do so if they so wish – wireless Internet connections are available to guests.

The estate's magnificent guest lodge is set on 12 hectares of private land that includes an enchanting garden. Visitors to Papyrus Lodge can spend time on the lush lawns, comfortably seated in loungers shaded by umbrellas or taking in the view from a traditional "strandkorb" (a conventional German beach chair) from the German East shore that offers protection from sun, wind or rain.
Spending time on the lawn gives guests the opportunity to enjoy the splendid views and serenity of the shady palm trees.

The estate also has its very own lake fit for swimming, fishing or rowing activities. Rowing and pedal boats are available to guest free of charge to allow them to explore the lake that is fed with fresh water from the nearby Helderberg mountain (Helderberg translates to "clear mountain", referring to the spectacular views it offers across the entire Cape Peninsula on a clear day.)

Avid anglers can hire fishing rods and spend a lazy day in the sun this way. The fresh-water lake is stocked with a variety of fish. These include black bass, some trout and Tilapia (also known locally as "Blue Kurper").

Birdwatchers have as much to enjoy during their stay at Papyrus Lodge. The estate offers access to and views of an immense variety of different indigenous birds that can be spotted on and around the lake.

The area is also home to a variety of indigenous and other plants and visitors can savour the floral abundance it offers.
Papyrus Lodge lies in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom botanical region that is rich in "fynbos".
Only five other floral kingdoms are internationally recognised, and these cover huge areas such as the whole of Australia and most of the northern hemisphere.
The Cape Floral Kingdom is the world's smallest and richest floral kingdom and has the highest known concentration of plant species: 1 300 per 10 000 km².
To accommodate younger visitors, Papyrus Lodge has created a colourful and safe playground with a trampoline.
Children can enjoy themselves in the playground without disturbing other guests who take pleasure in the tranquility Papyrus Lodge offers.

Scrumptious "sunny side up" breakfasts are served on the garden terrace overlooking the garden and the lake or in the sun-drenched breakfast room on chilly days.
Guests can enjoy a mouthwatering breakfast buffet on offer, the perfect start to yet another magical day at Papyrus Lodge and surrounds.

Papyrus Lodge is ideally situated in the heart of the spectacular Cape Winelands region, between the historic town of Stellenbosch and cosmopolitan Somerset West.
Lodged between mountains and vineyards with the beach just a mere five minutes drive away, Papyrus Lodge offers a wealth of activities on your doorstep.
