The three Cape Dutch style cottages have all been specifically
designed to provide guests with maximum comfort during their stay.
Situated adjacent to neighbouring vineyards, all offer spectacular
views of the surrounding Witzenburg mountains and overlook the large
dam.
All three are fully equipped, tastefully furnished and have their
own private braai areas, “riet dak” and timber ceilings,
fitted panel heaters, bathrooms with separate showers and jet master
log fireplaces.
Wild Olive Farm Accommodation |
|
Accommodation on Wild Olive Farm is comprised of five fully furnished
self catering cottages with mountain views all around.
Three of the cottages were commissioned in June 2003 and the other two
cottages were original laborers cottages that were converted to guest
cottages about 10 years ago. All our cottages are priced per unit and
not per person.
Guinea Fowl Cottage -sleeps 6:
Guinea Fowl cottage is the largest of our new cottages and boasts three
bedrooms configured as one double bedroom and two twins. The master bedroom
as an en-suite shower and wc while the family bathroom has a bath with
overhead shower and wc. There is an open plan living area with jet master
fireplace as well as the dining and kitchen area with French doors leading
onto a large pergola covered terrace, offering beautiful views over our
large dam and the surrounding Witzenberg mountain range.
Kingfisher and Fish Eagle Cottages -both sleep 4:
These two cottages are configured identically having one double bedroom
and one twin. The bathroom has a bath, separate shower and wc. There is
an open plan living area with jet master fireplace as well as the dining
and kitchen area with French doors leading onto a large pergola covered
terrace, both offering spectacular views of the surrounding valley with
Kingfisher Cottage being situated closest to the mountains.
Gas Cottages
Our original three cottages detailed below do not have electricity although
gas stoves, fridges, geysers, gas lamps and cosy fireplaces keep our guests
very comfortable.
Plover Cottage (Gas powered, sleeps 2):
This open plan semi-detached unit has a kitchenette and indoor Jet master
log fireplace as well as a shower and wc. This cottage has a double bed
and outside there is a tiled stoep and private braai area with lovely
views.
NOTE: To ensure privacy we never rent out both cottages together unless
guests are part of the same group.
This cottage has a double bed in the main bedroom and bunk beds in an
alcove off the living area.
NOTE:The bunk beds are unfortunately not suitable for large adults. There
is a bathroom with shower and wc as well as a Jet master log fireplace
in the open plan lounge/dining area.
Outside there is a tiled stoep and private braai area with fantastic views.
About Wild Olive Farm:
Wild Olive Farm is a working wine and olive farm situated off the R46,
approximately 6km from Tulbagh and about an hour and 15 minutes from Cape
Town. The farm is 133 Hectares in size (+- 300 acres) and is nestled in
the foothills of the Witzenberg mountain range.
The farm has an established tourism business comprised of self catering
cottages and a campsite which offers guests the opportunity to relax and
unwind in a tranquil and scenic environment.
2003 saw the construction of three new self catering cottages as well
as new plantings of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wine grapes.
The six hectares of 15 year old olive groves (Frantoio cultivar) had been
badly neglected for many years and with the help of Brendon's brother,
Kevin, the groves are now undergoing a slow rejuvenation with a viable
crop being expected in this years harvest. 2004 saw more wine grape plantings
(Viognier, Mouverdre and Petit Verdoux) as well as a few more hectares
of Olive trees.

Wild Olive Farm is owned by Brendon, born and bred in Durban and Sue McHugh,
a Londoner. Both previously hail from the corporate IT world of Shell
based in the UK and the Netherlands, who gave up their laptops, teleconferences
and pinstripe suits and returned to SA for a new life in the beautiful
Tulbagh valley.
They took over the reins of Wild Olive Farm in November 2002 and, along
with their two young children, Jessica and Tom , started a series of projects
to develop the farm's tourism, viticulture and olive potential.
