From Johannesburg the lodge is located a comfortable 3 hours drive away.
Your unforgettable African experience is already starting as you arrive at the reserve gate.
Transfers to the lodge are done in our open game-drive vehicles, ensuring maximum exposure to this remote location.
For exceptional exclusivity we only accommodate a maximum of 10 guests at a time.

Martial Heights Game Lodge

The Welgevonden Private Game Reserve nestles in the magnificent Waterberg plateau north of Johannesburg in South Africa's Limpopo Province.
On the reserves 36 000 hectares, visitors may enjoy unlimited traversing through the Welgevonden Game Reserve and experience an environment where biodiversity conservation and game viewing are managed in harmony.

Martial Heights Game Lodge Accommodation

We have five luxurious chalets, surrounded with striking Wild Seringa trees and spectacular views from the hill-tops.
Each chalet has en-suite bathrooms, an outside shower, complete with a private deck and Jacuzzi.
A close-by waterhole offers excitement throughout the day where a variety of animals quench their daily thirsts.
The main lodge area provides comfortable shading by a thatched roof and surrounding trees.
Cool down in our swimming pool on those hot sunny days and enjoy a refreshing drink from the bar, while relaxing on the main deck or in the lounge.
Two daily Game Drives are conducted by our experienced nature guide, who has been working in the Welgevonden Game Reserve for more than six years.
With exceptional knowledge of the animals and the area, Game Drives will certainly be a highlight!
Gourmet cuisine will complete your experience with meals being served in different locations every night.
From dining on the main deck alongside the lit waterhole to Boma dinners under an open African sky.
Dinners are also served at the Bush Boma away from the lodge and, for the more adventurous at heart, we can arrange to stay over at this location, on request.

Game Drives

Waterhole

Directions to the Welgevonden Game Reserve,

Take the N1 north out of Johannesburg/Pretoria. Just over 120 km after Pretoria find the Kranskop toll Plaza.
Take the R33 off-ramp at the toll plaza (keep in the left hand lane) to Modimolle / Nylstroom.
Drive straight through Modimolle/Nylstroom on the R33 towards Vaalwater.
Drive straight through Vaalwater on the R510 towards Thabazimbi.
To Welgevonden Main Gate: Follow the R510 for 24 km after leaving Vaalwater, the gate is on your left hand side (look out for the sign "Welgevonden Main Gate")
To Welgevonden South Gate: Follow the R510 for 6 km after leaving Vaalwater, turn left on the Bakkerspas dirt road, follow it for 34 km, the gate is on your right hand side (look out for sign “Welgevonden South Gate")
To Welgevonden East Gate: Follow the R510 for 13 km after leaving Vaalwater, turn left on the little dirt road (look out for sign “Welgevonden East Gate"), follow it for 11 km.
To Welgevonden West Gate: Follow the R510 for 47 km after leaving Vaalwater, turn left on the Schoongelegen dirt road, follow it for 17 km, the gate is on your left hand side (look out for sign “Welgevonden West Gate")
