We encourage you to soak up the atmosphere at Petra – walking, bird watching, cooling off in the crystal waters of the swimming pool, or peacefully drinking in the serenity.
Petra Mountain Retreat is conveniently situated a mere 15 minutes drive from the Kruger National Park, 30 minutes from Nelspruit, 10 minutes from White River, 20 minutes from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and close to many of the Lowveld’s attractions.

Petra Mountain Retreat Accommodation

Petra Mountain Retreat & Conference Centre offers spacious double en-suite bedrooms with very comfortable beds and tea / coffee making facilities. They are warmly welcoming rooms and a generous continental breakfast basket allows you the freedom to decide where and when you have your breakfast.
All the bedrooms are non-smoking rooms. For those with young children we have a couple of adjoining bedrooms with an inter-leading door allowing the privacy of your own room with peace of mind for your children.

Petra Mountain Retreat was built as a hotel in the fifties. The bedrooms were built on both sides of a passage which runs along the ridge of the spectacular Legogote Mountain. Not only are the views magnificent, but the windows are tree-top height giving one a bird’s eye view of life in the trees.

We will be delighted to advise and make bookings for you at any of these establishments. Generally Petra Mountain Retreat does not serve dinners, but if you would like to have dinner here, we would appreciate 24 hours notice.
White River is not in the malaria belt.
There is no need to take prophylactics unless you are intending to spend time in the Kruger National Park. Come, let us spoil you at Petra Mountain Retreat and share this haven of tranquility and splendour with you.

Petra Mountain Retreat Facilities

Telephone, fax and email facilities are available in reception. Petra Mountain Retreat and Conference Centre, a mere 20 kms from KMI Airport and Kruger National Park, is an ideal and unique venue for conferences and strategic planning sessions, training courses, team building, retreats, workshops, marriage encounter weeks, confirmation courses as well as motivational youth camps and school groups.

Wherever possible groups will have sole use of the venue and access to outstanding breakaway session sites. There are several venues from which to plan your perfect function.
The thatched lapa is set separately but nearby the hotel, in an ideal situation for conferencing and training where concentration is enhanced by the lack of distraction.

The Lapa has a data projector, white board and flip chart. The dining room comfortably seats 50 guests and is an excellent option for conferences and training courses as well as for the more lavish banquet type of evening.
The outside verandah with swimming pool offers Al Fresco dining with a view. Have a relaxing cup of tea or coffee by the fire in lounge, or make use of the prayer room or TV lounge.

There is also a computer centre and a TV room. We are able to cater for conferences for more than a day as well one-day conferences and part-day conferences.
Exclusivity of the venue is assured, and you will be assigned a Conference Coordinator to ensure your needs will be met efficiently. Basic office back-ups are available in the way of photocopying, faxing, printing and emails.

We are extremely flexible and can adapt to the configuration of your choice. Words and photos cannot do justice to this piece of paradise. Please come and have a look for yourself. We would love to show you around and to help you plan your perfect function.

Petra Mountain Retreat and Conference Centre must be one of the most beautiful and versatile venues in the Lowveld to hold your perfect wedding. Wherever you look the views are amazing, and with the patio adjacent to a large dining room, the weather doesn't scare us!
Ceremony
There are several choices of venue for the ceremony. Weather permitting, the lawned garden above the pool offers the shelter of well-established trees as well as simply stunning views.
The thatched Lapa can be converted into the quaintest chapel and for a smaller wedding, our Prayer Rock which juts out of the mountain giving panoramic views of the Lowveld is a spectacular place to make the most important vows of your life.

Reception
Our beautifully proportioned large oak-floored dining room opens onto a large patio, half covered and half open. This allows for all weathers and takes the stress out of not being able to control the weather!
The dining room has high ceilings and can be easily transformed into the wonderland of your dreams. A marquee in the gardens is an elegant option, and there is much scope for the wedding photos, with stunning views, fabulous rocks, giant trees, and serene gardens.

We have a comprehensive list of suppliers, hiring companies, flower arrangers, printers, decorators, photographers, videographers, cake makers, hairdressers, spas and caterers to recommend. We will be delighted to guide you through the planning process of your wedding.

How To Get To Petra Mountain Retreat

From Nelspruit, take the White River road (R40, north). Proceed through 1st traffic lights when entering White River (Sabie turn-off to the left).
Turn left at the 1st traffic lights (NTT Toyota), and then turn right at 1st traffic lights (school on the left). Turn left at the 2nd traffic lights onto the Hazyview road (R40) at the bottom of this street.
Drive past the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre on the right and Bagdad Centre on the left after ± 2 km. Then turn right onto the Numbi Gate / Kruger National Park road (R538).

The R538 winds through plantations and down a short mountain pass which leads into the Peebles Valley ± 12 km further. Pass the Peebles Valley turn-off on the left (which is also the road to Africa School of Missions / ASM) and continue for another ± 500 m until the blue signpost for Petra College on the right. Turn right and proceed uphill to the security gate. Press the intercom button for the gate to be opened.
