From its source at a nearby waterfall named “Taad Yao” by local residents, the cascade gently tumbles down several tiers of large boulders within the resort. During a visit by a renowned Chinese feng shui master, he commented on the orientation of the buildings in relation to the natural environs — an energy flow which he terms “Mouth of a Dragon”.

This positioning means guests will receive a positive energy boost, promoting success and prosperity. Before he left, the feng shui master also engraved his admiration including the resort founder’s name on the “Beard of a Tiger” as a symbol of the resort’s positive power.

Sukantara Cascade Resort & Spa is a boutique resort that oozes peace, warmth and coziness. It was founded in 2004 by Khun Somporn Sugunasil, a former executive at one of the top two banks in Thailand. As a local from Chiang Mai, an innate appreciation of nature stayed with him from birth and where the resort now stands was formerly his private residence. On a quiet day after his retirement, while sipping on a glass of wine next to the waterfall, an idea came to him.

“We have here surroundings that are amazing,” he thought. “Wouldn’t it be even better if we could share this with people from around the world?” Hence the seed was sown for what would become Sukantara Cascade Resort.

By Air:
Domestic airlines (Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways, Air Asia, Orient Thai Airlines and Nok Air ) operate several daily flights between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. A one-way flight takes about one hour.

By Bus:
Several ordinary and air-conditioned buses leaving daily from Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal (also known as Mo Chit) on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road.

By Train:
Express and rapid trains leave for Chiang Mai from Hualamphong Station several times daily and the trip takes about 11-12 hours for express trains. It is highly recommended to reserve seats well in advance, especially for sleepers.
