Towering some 200 metres above the surrounding landscape, with sheer cliffs and fascinating rock formations, Waterberg Mountain  Park has over 200 bird species, including the only breeding colony of Cape vulture. The Waterberg plateau, which is managed as a breeding area for rare and endangered species, including black and white rhinoceros, disease-free buffalo, sable and roan antelope. Because of its elevated position, considerably higher rainfall and dense sub- tropical vegetation, the Waterberg Plateau Park forms a stark contrast with the dryness of  Etosha.
