Vital Information:
Warnings
Please ensure that your stay is happy and safe by taking note of a few
simple warnings. You will be sharing your stay with many exciting and
unusual creatures but without knowledge some of them could be dangerous:
- Bats, Spiders, Snakes, Scorpions, Malaria Zone
If you must walk around at night please DO NOT DO SO WITHOUT A TORCH.
Remember: by feeding any wildlife, you are signing their death warrant
as they become aggressive!
Climate
Kruger is in a summer rainfall area. Such precipitation is usually convectional
and can result in heavy downpours. The summer months (October to April)
are hot and often balmy. Winters are warm and mild, although visitors
going on night-drives will require warm clothing.
Day Visitors
Only residents are allowed in the camp and on the access roads to Biyamiti
Bush Camp. Biyamiti Bush Camp can be booked through Central Reservations
and is a wonderful bush experience for all. Biyamiti Bush Camp is situated
within easy reach of the larger rest camps so that guests can make use
of the larger camps amenities if needed.
Flora and Fauna:
Mammals:
Some of the animals to be seen in the area are giraffe, kudu, duiker,
impala, steenbok, elephant, rhino, buffalo, hippopotamus, lion, leopard
and hyena. There is also the chance of seeing the elusive cheetah, or
a pack of wild dogs.
Vegetation:
The Biyamiti camp is situated within the typical fairly dense mixed Combretum
Veld of the area. Tamboti, knob thorn, magic guarri, green thorn, sausage
tree and marula can all be found in and around the Biyamiti region.
Birding in Biyamiti:
The parks’ 5 bushveld camps all offer superb birding opportunity.
Camps in general attract a boon of birds. They are all well foliaged and
usually next to water-courses. The advantage of the bushveld camps is
that there are less other visitors to scare things off. All of these camps
have hides or viewing platforms that further enhance birding. Some of
the specials associated with this camp are:
Biyamiti: Great for Woodland birds – good place to see African Barred
Owlet and Retz’s (Red-billed) Helmet-shrike.
